Heart Rate Stuck on 66

Former Member
Former Member
My 235 has developed a fault today, whereby the 24/7 heart rate is stuck on 66bpm, with no heart rate at all available during activities.

A quick forum/web search shows that a few people have had the same issue - Has anybody managed to find a solution yet, or is it a trip back to Garmin?

I've already tried updating to 3.13 (even reverting to 3.10 first, as I was already running 3.13 beta), restoring factory settings and the obligatory turning the HRM on and off, but nothing has shifted the issue.

Fast falling out of love with this device, after being over the moon with it a week ago. I was even overlooking the short battery life and the fact I couldn't pair my HRM strap with it (not sure if it is fault on watch, or strap) not to mention the cosmetic scratch on the LCD screen underneath the glass.

Hopefully, just teething trouble, as, when it was working, this was one *** of a running watch.

    any tricks?

I tried to turn the 235 on/ off, reset, restore to default, hr off/ on, record 1 sec interval instead of automatic.
The HR stays on 66 whatever I do.

Also, I've tried to download the 3.41 FW and place it on /garmin/remotesw/
After disconnecting from my PC, the FW does not install. When I plug in to the computer again, the file is gone.

I've created a support ticket on Garmin Support.

I emailed support the other day about the 71/72 HR issue that was fixed for the VSHR, but still a problem with the FR235. They said to call them if I was interested in testing a new beta. I haven't called them yet, but I expect it's the 3.41 that you mentioned. Where did you find the download?

    WHR 2.41 or FW 3.41?

    fw and whr

    WHR 2.41 or FW 3.41?

    Is that not the same?

Update: HR is not stuck anymore. I have deleted most of the files on the device, while connected to the computer. After this, pressed run-back&backlight button (reset method for garmin 220, I found this on a youtube vid). The HR now works again. I still hope a new FW will be released soon, which will solve the bug permanently.

No, they are different. FW3.30 is the current firmware for the watch. WHR2.50 is the current software for the HR sensor. When you said you tried to download FW3.41 there was some confusion on what update you were referring too.

No HR stuck, but heart rate not correct during run.

    ● NAVIGATE: Long press UP ➔ Settings ➔ System ➔ About
    ● now switching UP/DOWN
    GPS: 3.00
    Display: 2.10
    Bluetoothe/ANT: 2.10
    WHR: 2.50 (10.01.82)
    Connect IQ: 1.2.1

Heartrate stuck issue did not appear again.
Today my first runs (8km run and 1km recovery exercises) and the heart rate is too low. Check: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1052547282
It was cold (around freezing point). My guess is the actual heart rate was between 140-170 for 5:00min/km pace, but nowhere near 96 avg. which was measured.

    Worth the headache

Finally I was able to get it out of 66mode by turning off the HR monitor in the settings, then hard power down, waited 5 minutes, booted it back up and waited another minute before enabling the HR monitor again. That fixed it both times.

Got my 235 on Feb 20th with the 66 hr bug straight out of the box. Upgraded to 3.3.0, and tried everything but could not get it to read my hr. Finally tried the above trick and it worked!

Had my first run with it today and it's totally worth being Garmins guinea pig. The accuracy, features, and customization put this way above all the Fitbit devices if you are a serious runner trying to get faster.

    Helped me as well!

I'm afraid they aren't, this is a user only forum. However it is filled with experienced people who can offer advice. On the 66 HRM bug, press and hold power for 15 secs, then turn it back on, that should sort it. The 235 is a new product which is getting frequent firmware updates and I'm sure this bug will be fixed soon. It will get better but if you can't wait then return it else it will drive you mad!

Just tried this advice and it has helped, at least for the moment it starts to show hr dynamics
