Heart Rate Stuck on 66

Former Member
Former Member
My 235 has developed a fault today, whereby the 24/7 heart rate is stuck on 66bpm, with no heart rate at all available during activities.

A quick forum/web search shows that a few people have had the same issue - Has anybody managed to find a solution yet, or is it a trip back to Garmin?

I've already tried updating to 3.13 (even reverting to 3.10 first, as I was already running 3.13 beta), restoring factory settings and the obligatory turning the HRM on and off, but nothing has shifted the issue.

Fast falling out of love with this device, after being over the moon with it a week ago. I was even overlooking the short battery life and the fact I couldn't pair my HRM strap with it (not sure if it is fault on watch, or strap) not to mention the cosmetic scratch on the LCD screen underneath the glass.

Hopefully, just teething trouble, as, when it was working, this was one *** of a running watch.
  • I have to say that I am a bit preturbed to have paid $330 to be a beta tester.

That's par for the course with Garmin in recent years. Seems with every new gps watch you run a risk of encountering bugs and issues for at least the first few months, only settling down after a while.

Are you on the latest firmware versions? I've not seen the 66BPM bug since updating to the latest, though I understand some people have. (knock wood)

Unfortunately, I'm one of those who didn't see the bug before the latest firmware update and yet has been stuck on 66/96 bpm for the past several days. As stated, the green HRM LED doesn't seem to be on at all!

Worked great for a week then 66 lock

My 235 worked perfectly for exactly a week. I updated to 3.30 a few days ago and everything was working fine this morning. Rode my bike to work and just for giggles I turned the watch off and back on again... boom. 66 bpm lock. The little heart icon keeps blinking and the green lights on the back of the face are lit up. It's like it is searching for my heart beat, but can't find it.

I tried restarting it several times. Also turned the heart rate monitor off and back on again a few times. No luck. Still 66.

I just called Garmin support and was told that they think it is a software issue and that I should just sit tight until the next update. I guess I'll wait for a few days and see what happens.

Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to fix this?
  • I encountered the 66 HR lockup for the first time yesterday afternoon. It happened shortly after a run. It was stuck on 66 BPM, all three green LEDs were on, and no heart rate data was being recorded for the duration. I cycled the power and it returned back to normal.
  • Problem came back again!

This problem came back, and all of the reset and power down that I could try wouldn't fix it. Tried it with HRM on, tried it with HRM off...nothing. I noticed that my clock was way off. I turned off the autoset feature on the watch and reset again, it is back to life. It may have been purely coincidental, but I am leaving up the auto clock set feature for the immediate future. We'll see if it comes back. It is a giant chunk of change to test out Garmin's immature product...and that pisses me off.
  • Hi Everyone - Sorry for the trouble! We've got a new beta that should resolve this bug. You can find it here:

Looks like this is an update to the sensor package firmware. The version number threw me off at first.
  • Yes it is a Sensor Hub SW Beta. If you'd like to load it please follow the instructions in that link.

Do you know if it's for the 66 bug only? I'm hoping they'll get rid of the HR always defaulting to 72 bullsh*t!

Looks better to me. Have initialized a few HR measurements and no artificial 72bpm appeared.
