Heart Rate Stuck on 66

My 235 has developed a fault today, whereby the 24/7 heart rate is stuck on 66bpm, with no heart rate at all available during activities.

A quick forum/web search shows that a few people have had the same issue - Has anybody managed to find a solution yet, or is it a trip back to Garmin?

I've already tried updating to 3.13 (even reverting to 3.10 first, as I was already running 3.13 beta), restoring factory settings and the obligatory turning the HRM on and off, but nothing has shifted the issue.

Fast falling out of love with this device, after being over the moon with it a week ago. I was even overlooking the short battery life and the fact I couldn't pair my HRM strap with it (not sure if it is fault on watch, or strap) not to mention the cosmetic scratch on the LCD screen underneath the glass.

Hopefully, just teething trouble, as, when it was working, this was one *** of a running watch.

and mine was 4 hours of use, changed to beta software, all good then 17 hours later back to 66, hard reset has worked but took the watch back to how it was when first switched on. Cannot be doing that everyday.

I'm giving mine 24 hours to not revert back to 66 then if ok will keep it. If not its off and will try another.

Sent mine back to Garmin in the uk because of this issue. The retailer was out of stock.

Still waiting for something to come back though. Looks like firmware needs updating to sort it.

After my master reset yesterday the watch has been perfect, HR has not stayed at 66 since. I am on the beta 3.13 which solved the issue to begin with but when 66 returned a master reset seems to have solved the issue.

I hope it stays that way.

One thing i have noticed is that i only have the problem after connecting the watch to our mac. I do disconnect the watch correctly but not sure if this is the cause.

Hopefully that will sort the problem out for you now (and give me hope for my replacement!)

Mine is currently winging its way back to Garmin - Just hope it doesn't become a long term issue. After finally ditching the chest strap and Fitbit, I really don't want to go back :D
  • I've seen the 66 lock twice now. Both times after taking the watch off the charger.

Power cycling the watch solved the matter both times.

Annoying, but not enough so that I'm going to do anything about it. I expect it'll be sorted out soon enough.

I've posted in other threads because mine developed the same thing a few weeks ago. Garmin has actually been very good with their response, which I am copying below. They do not stock their own inventory on new items (such as the 235) right away per an agreement with their retailers. Sometime in Mid January if not sooner they will and they will send out a new watch to me IF the fix is not completed.

    Good Morning Leigh,

After we talked yesterday, we announced that customers are still running into issues with the heart rate being stuck at 66 BPM. Our engineers have already started on a fix to this problem. I know, we had thought we had fixed it with software version 2.40, but issues are still happening.

I do want to let you know, that your device has nothing wrong with it as far as hardware. This problem is a software issue and will be fixed. We can play it by ear, but if there is an update that fixes this issue before we send one out. Let me know. We can go ahead and cancel that order so you are not charged and do not have to send this one back to us.

I just wanted to let you know what is going on. I believe more information for you the better.

    Thank you!

  • Dang it!

I'm about to return this thing to Clever. What a piece of junk. All of the sudden, it started with this 66bpm garbage. Been working fine for 3 weeks. This is a very disappointing product! Garmin, are you listening?
  • I'm afraid they aren't, this is a user only forum. However it is filled with experienced people who can offer advice. On the 66 HRM bug, press and hold power for 15 secs, then turn it back on, that should sort it. The 235 is a new product which is getting frequent firmware updates and I'm sure this bug will be fixed soon. It will get better but if you can't wait then return it else it will drive you mad!

  • I tried all kinds of things, like a default reset.

Finally, I read your post and held the light button until the screen slowly faded. When the watch reset, 66bpm were finally gone. I have to say that I am a bit preturbed to have paid $330 to be a beta tester.

    Thanks for the assistance.
