FR235 HRM and Sleep Data Comparison

Hi,

I have received my FR235 yesterday and am currently in the process of comparing its HR data and sleep data to other products I have been using so far.

HR: Compared vs Polar H7 chest strap recorded by Polar Beat iOS app. I am using mygpsfiles.com to compare.
Sleep data: Compared to iOS Sleep Cycle Alarm app.

I thought I might share this here in a thread.... so here you go :) I will add new comparison-results once I have completed them.

GPS Run 02 Dec 2015, Beta 3.13

Blue: FR235
Orange: H7

My first ever run with the FR235, I was trying different paces including walking to see how it would react. Over all I am satisfied with accuracy.
- at around 14:00 I slowed down for the first time and the FR235 lagged behind with dropping HR again.
- at 25:00 I did a sprint... the FR235 was suprisingly accurate with this one
- at 33:00 it was a little more inaccurate, maybe because at that point I was slowing down again
- From about 52:00 I was just sitting down... there the FR235 was jumping a lot more up and down than the H7

    Smart vs. 1 sec

    I have 1-sec recording enabled.

Have you testet the HR while on smart registration? Is there any difference?

I used smart for my first few runs, see my earliest posts, though this was with earlier firmware as well.

This is from a set of 12 short (90 secs, 1 min recovery) intervals I did yesterday. Tracks pretty well until after the 6th rep. As I said in the other thread, I had to stop and tie my lace so maybe wrist flexion threw it off. Wore the 235 higher up on my right wrist and on the inside. For comparison i wore a 310xt and a strap. There were occasions when it looks like cadence lock too, but I think that was just a coincidence as I would expect the cadence and HR to be the same in those cases. Don't have excel so can't show that. The intervals were almost all out efforts and the recovery a mix of walking and very slow jogging. The 235 trace is the green one in both pics. Both watches set to 1 second recording

So I'm a fair bit happier than I was. Perhaps with some better smoothing through software it could be better? The one thing I don't like is the massive spike to 199bpm - gives a false HRmax

This is the speed data from mygpsfiles. Was just wondering why the 235 is way more "spiky" that the 310xt - although the displayed pace did not show this level of irregularity. So not complaining, just curious

It really, really matters were you wear this watch. Also did not get pace alerts - I was using the workout function on the 235.
  • I'm wearing it like a normal watch and even though I got quite haity arms I just seem to be lucky to still have good readings.

    Deep sleep

How reliable is the sleep tracking function? I only seem to get 2 hours of deep sleep per night, while I sleep 7 and a half hours per night. Many deep sleep phases seem to be very short, with only a few decent deep sleeps. I'm curious if others have similar results.

Another thing worth mentioning, the device has so far never been able to track any of my naps, even while my movement was super low for over 30 minutes with consistent heartrate.
