Android Garmin Connect Bug - Default Unit of Measurement

Former Member

Good afternoon,

I just purchased the Forerunner 235 and have updated the firmware to 3.1 (latest).

The sync works generally well between Garmin Connect and the Forerunner 235, but I realize there is a bug where the Unit of Measurement does not sync properly. In Australia (and the rest of the world), we are using the Metric system. When I update Garmin Connect to change the Unit of Measurement to Kilometres, it switches my Forerunner from Kilometres to Miles (Height from Metres to Feet, Weight from Kilograms to Pounds, Pace from Kilometres to Miles).

The workaround solution for me now is to manually change the watch's default Unit of Measurement, after a software sync between Garmin Connect and the Forerunner 235 (which isn't ideal).

Just to confirm that the same happens to me!
  • Same problem

I have the same watch (Garmin FR235) and the problem is the same.

When I look at the system settings of my watch in Garmin Connect, it is always set to 'Miles'. Even when I change it and save it, it goes back to 'miles' when I re-open the units settings.
  • The same issue with my FR230.
  • It is indeed very annoying and you'd better check that the watch is still in metrics before starting out on your run! Didn't think of doing that yesterday and I had to pause my run and fiddle through the settings. Fortunately I was able to resume my run after that.

It doesn't only happen on the Android app. It happens on the website too if you enter (and correct) the settings there and then sync.

    Reported to Garmin

I have also reported this issue to Garmin International. They have assigned a support officer to my ticket, and I have referenced this thread, letting them know that I'm not the only one.

    Let's hope for the best!
  • Same Problem

I have the same Problem, it seems that this setting is depending on the "locale" settings of the android device. When changing the language on the smartphone it takes the new language setting. For units of measurement this doesn't work. But once you have the false units they always get synced to the device.

    same here

    Hey,

I got the same problem - Garmin Connect keeps resetting my units to miles etc. Though I live in Austria I've set my Android Phone to English(US).

    Cheers,

Yep, same issue. I keep changing it. Seems ok on a run, but bespoke workouts are causing a headache.
  • Yep, I have the same annoying issue with the 13th beta firmware.
