Screen Durability - Forerunner 235

Hi All,

This is my first foray into a fitness watch - and went for the Forerunner 235. Just taken delivery today, and am amazed at how light the thing is!

It feels so light, im terrified of breaking the thing!

I know the screen is plastic - how prone are they to scratching? Im planning on using as my day to day fitness/step tracker, and for running, so am wondering how durable the screen is? I dont want to spend £250 and scratch it in a week!

Any experiences out there? Any users with Screen Protectors? How do they look? Do they look tatty or are invisible if applied properly?

Thanks!
  • Re screen protectors this thread https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?335076-Can-t-use-screen-protector-with-630 might be useful as the 630 will be the same size.

Personally have never used a screen protector on any Garmin watch in over 10 years using them now.

However if you find you get scratches on watches (if think you might) perhaps because of the nature of what you do then clearly some are available.
  • I've been wearing the 225 daily since it was first released and don't have any scratches on it. I work in an office but often have to reach behind things to turn machines on/off and what not and had the same concerns at first but it hasn't been a problem.
  • As an F3 owner considering switching to the FR235, this is one of my main concerns/questions. Would appreciate the experience (and pics) of others or any additional material on the material used in the screen.
  • Like TIMGROSE, I have had several Garmin running watches over the years and never had a problem with scratches. I won my running clubs unofficial "Mr Tumble" award last year as the club member who had tripped and fell most often during training runs. Despite some pretty impressive faceplants into sand and brambles, my Garmin always came out unscathed.

Funny you should mention that but I had an "impressive" fall myself the other week with knee, elbows and palms going different shades of black and red but not a scratch on my Forerunners - one on each wrist!

Years ago I fell off my bike and got 2 small fractures but to myself not my Garmins! My bike wasn't "happy" either :)

The screen protector from 225 is the same size of the watch of 235. I had an extra screen protector from 225 and used on 235 and it fits perfectly.
  • I just found these on eBay. For $1.99, I might as well see how they work.

I use a similar product called Savvies I can recommend, not visible to the naked eye once applied, unless really looking at close quarters. £1.99 from ebay.

Agree same size for 225 as 235
