Backlight time-out bug

I have the following problem with the backlight of my Forerunner 235. No matter what setting I choose for back-light timeout (even at 'always on'), it always times out after 5 seconds. The setting itself remains to the value I set it to. (Note that a 5-second time-out is not even an option in the backlight settings). Anyone else experiencing this bug? Is there a solution or should I wait for a firmware update?
  • Hi,

this is not a bug. The backlight timeout is only applicable when doing an activity. When in Low Power Mode (LPM) the backlight is always 5 seconds to save battery,

Thanks! I just found out myself that is not a bug but a feature. It worked correctly in training mode yesterday when I went for a run in the dark. Still sucks that I cannot fully control the background light in menu/widget mode.

It is probably implemnted like that for a reason. Suppose you put the timeout to infinite. That's could cause problems if you accidentely pust the button while you're sleeping, and the light stays on all night...
  • Yeah your battery would probably give out early in your next run with much cursing!!!

With every new release from Garmin the options for granular customization are going away. I liked that a global setting for backlight ‘always on’ was applicable on the clock/widget. I understand why Garmin thinks it’s a good idea not to enable it on the home screen, but a reason why I have had this brand so long is there always multiple ways to customize. If I want a company to strip options to simplicity or do what it thinks is best for me I would have bought an Apple Watch.
