Virtual partner / virtual racer feature: announced, not delivered

Just went to DC Rainmakers site, and in the comments on the first review of the 235, Ray confirms that there will be no virtual racer / virtual partner feature on the forerunner 235. These features were announced and were on the specification list for a month or so.

I think it is just inexcusable that advertised features are not present. I based my decision for buying a 235 on the fact that the website said it had a virtual pacer / virtual racer feature. Now it turns out that is not the case. It was a feature I really wanted to have.

As Ray states, it is not just a mistake that was quickly removed from their website after a few hours or so. It was there for a month or so. When I got the watch and couldn’t find that feature, I went back to their website and checked. I even saved a screenshot, for it was still there. If we even can’t trust the manufacturer to tell us what features are present in THEIR watch, then where do we have to go???

I will be investigating what the laws of my country say about such misleading product announcements. In the end, I have bought a product that does not live up to what the manufacturer announced it would offer. It is just plain amateurism.

Heck, this is a 349 euro watch. Can I at least expect to get what was promised?????

Well, apparently today Garmin removed any mention of the virtual pacer / racer /partner feature from the specs site on the website.

Too bad it has been there since they announced, until the day I ordered and even up to today. Pity nobody checked to see in that whole month whether the specs matched the watch. Not even after questions about that arose on DC Rainmakers website.

Pity, for I really like the watch. But I can't put up with this amateurism that leads to the fact that an important feature for me is missing after it was promised.

I emailed Garmin today, asking to get at least a part of my money back for the promises not delivered, or otherwise for a full return of the watch and a full refund. In the latter case I'll buy the Tomtom music cardio. Yes, less functions. But it DOES at least allow you to run against your own former races. And it is 100 euro less, not unimportant either.
  • I remember someone wondering what virtual pacer meant as previous models either had virtual partner or virtual racer...now we know, it means it's...a virtual feature!

Having said that there is the new "Finish Time" estimator which is interesting AND a CIQ app called..."Virtual Pacer" https://apps.garmin.com/en-ZA/apps/1825bb91-1a47-4283-8564-f96544b2085e that will add the missing feature...at the cost of a data page. Since you say you like the watch you may want to check it out to see if it fits your needs.

Virtual racer is still on specs for me:

However, virtual pacer is gone

Thanks for the tip. In fact, that is about what I need and it seems implemented rather nicely. Garmin agreed to take my device back and refund me, but if this does the trick I think I'll reconsider. I'll try it out.
  • Virtual Features vs Real Money

    Hi all,

This is something that should not have happened and really sounds like intentional.
These are Virtual Features but costs us (a lot of) Real Money!!

    Shame on you Garmin!
