Switching to imperial units after each sync

I own a forerunner 235 and have the following problem.

When I first turned on the watch, I chose metrical units (kilometers etc) instead of the imperial units (miles etc) that it proposed. After that I synced my watch for the first time. I was told though these settings only go from the website to the watch, modifications on the watch however would not be uploaded to my Garmin connect profile.

When I went to the Garmin connect website, I noticed it said "miles" there, so I switched it to kilometers. After that I synced my watch. But then I did my first run, and I got distance in miles.

Today I used the Garmin connect app on Android. I noticed that there too it was put to miles. Changed it to kilometers. However, upon sync with my watch, the watch is reset to imperial units. Tried it several times (reset to kms on the watch or in the app, then a sync), but after each sync the units get switched to imperial units.

I read on other forums here that some other watches have similar problem. Would that be a software problem with Garmin?

I don't feel like having to change it before each run: height from feet to meters, weight from pounds to kilograms, and a few more...

Anyone else experiencing this?
  • Sounds like same issues as discussed in this 630 thread https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?330881-Units-are-still-reset-to-miles

As I mention there, have reported to Garmin and there does appear to be something for them to address.

    Thank you Tim!
  • I have had the same problem and solve it as follow.
The watch ist connected with the phone via bluetooth and the Garmin connect app is open on the phone .
The phone have an internet connection.
From Garmin connect site from computer, unter the watch settings, change to metric and save it. That's it! Update the Garmin connect app from the phone. In the next minute the phone makes also a synchronization with the watch.
But from now on, don't go to that settings any more. From computer or phone, because it will turn to miles again.
I hope you can make it. You can check if it is all metric only from watch settings

Thank you Kostas. By coincidence, this morning I synced and found out the watch remained in kilometer. But I haven't gone to these settings on either the website or in the Android app, so I suppose that staying away from there helps for the units not to return to miles.

Mine's doing the same. I change it in the web app or on the android app, click save, go back into the web app or the android app and its back in miles. Sync my watch, it goes to miles. I'll try the setting int he we app and updating, but I have another problem that its not synced the only activity that I've done. New thread time.
  • miles kilometers

Hello the same issue with my forerunner 230 version 3.20. Miles cannot be changed to kilometers at GC internet site.
    I hope they fix it.
  • Frustrating to have settings changing by themselves

I am having the same issue. Ran last night and even though I have set it up to metric, it displayed in miles (and since I don't see units in the activity screens and only numbers, I thought I am running very very slow and kept being frustrated! :D)
When got home, I tried going to the site and change to metric again, says it saved the settings, synced to phone via Garmin Express but the setting on the site is still imperial!
    Garmin, please address this!
  • Has this bug been reintroduced?

I've had my 235 for just over a month, running 3 times a week, syncing and having no problems until the last week.

Now I have the same "device settings returns to imperial" issue. Very annoying to have my pace in miles when I have only ever use Km! Makes the device half useless to pace my run :(
I am more than a little pissed off!
  • I stated in all ways the issue unnecessarily, Forerunner 235 is the first product garmin I take, the clock is great but the service is really worth.
