230 Battery Life

I'm really curious about the battery life estimates on this watch. 5 weeks is obviously on the high side of what it's capable of. Meaning no GPS usage, no backlight, no bluetooth notifications/syncing, and likely no activity tracking. However, I'm curious about real world usage.

If you've got this watch detail what you have turned on, and how long it lasts.

Hours of Training/GPS per week?
Bluetooth notifications? yes/no
Activity Tracking Active? yes/no
Backlight Settings?
------------------------
Total battery life?

I got mine last Friday and enabled all the activity tracking, GLONASS, BT, etc. Did 4 runs and by Tues it still had 65 percent battery left. From what I am seeing, the battery life looks very promising and similar to the Fenix 3 that I used to own.....very nice watch and very very accurate, even on the trails.
  • two weeks with 6 runs (~1h each) and still 40%
    I do not need better.
I understand that 5 weeks are from marketing and I will never "see" them, but its Ok
  • 1 week of use with notifications on (although yesterday decided to only send calls to watch); activity tracking on and ~3 hours of GPS activity and i'm at 70%. i usually run more but caught a cold so i am sidelined right now. i also have played a lot with setting and mucked around with different things so this is a heavy week in terms of non-GPS watch related activities.

i am guessing i will regularly get two weeks comfortably out of the watch which is good enough for me.
  • My today's hike took 3h26m (recorded time with app Hike) and consumed 27% of battery. That should be in total over 13h of battery life. Bluetooth on, GPS only (no Glonass), smart recording. Outside temperature 0 degrees Celsius. Forerunner 230.
  • I don't know how you guys are getting that good of battery life. I am now where near that.

9 days of use 27% battery life left. 3 hours of gps use (glonass on) activity tracking on notifications on. I may get like 2 notifications per day. I do have the connect IQ simple watch face installed.

anyone getting great battery life using a different watch face?

    Received mine on Friday.

I did a race with Glonass and 1 second save for half an hour on saturday, and 1 hour yesterday. Activity tracker and notifications always ON.

At the moment (Tuesday 18:00) i have at least 20%.

It´s pretty amazing battery life of this watch.

The specs say 5 weeks with acavity tracking and notifications. I had 100% charge at 7 am today. As of 5pm I am down to 94% with tracking and notifications. 6% 10 hours. That is less than 2 weeks. Much less than the claimed 5 weeks.

another data point for me and i wonder if my prior numbers were skewed to initially do some Garmin Express stuff which probably charged it a little.

sadly, i continue to be sic and haven't run or hiked at all in the past week, but that gives a good log of background battery use.

i charged 11/23 and now 8+ days later, i have gone from 98% to 64% (if you look at my other thread, i couldn't get my phone to show 100% even after charging for nearly 4 hours)

that would give 3+ weeks of background usage with:

Watch face: Pointer -- that's become my watch face of choice
    Notifications: phone only
    Backlighting: occasionally used
    Activity tracking: on.

i consider this very good. i didn't expect 5 weeks but hope i can get close to 2 weeks once is start running and hiking again (with about 4-5 hours of GPS use a week) we will see...
  • Hi everyone,

I get only 7 days battery life with bluetooth on, and 3 hours gps activity during the week.

    Is it normal?

To give you a point of reference: I charged my FR230 at 3:30 PM to %100 on 12/9/2015, which was ~11.5 days ago. Since then I have done three 45 minute runs with GLONASS, 1 second recording, BT, Activity tracking, Notifications, pretty frequent back light usage, and nearly constant tinkering. As of this moment I am at 43% battery left.

My GPS usage is about half of yours, but that still seems pretty fast for you battery to drain. I have noticed that with GPS+GLONASS+ 1 Second recording end up being about 4-5% battery drain for a 45-60 minutes run. So 4 hours GPS would be about 15%-20%.
