There seems to be an issue with Forerunner 230 Heart Rate alerts.
I picked up this watch at the NYC Marathon expo along with the Premium heart rate monitor. The high alert does not seem to work. Here are my settings:
High Alert - 151 bpm
Low Alert - 139 bpm
Then when I go into Alerts I see "Heart Rate 139-151 bpm"
The low alert works fine - while my heart is below that threshold the watch will vibrate to alert me. However, I can cross the high threshold and there is not alert. I ran a tempo run @ 162 today and the alert didn't go off once. (https://www.strava.com/activities/428993504)
I've tried turning off the low alert and testing the high by itself but it did not work. I've also tried the low alone and the low works. I've tried this with a friend who has a similar watch and he verified that the settings appear correct. He was just as surprised as me when the alert didn't go off.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a firmware issue? It's also a little confusing because there are 4 different places to set heart rate zones (on the watch, device settings, garmin connect settings (default, running)). I'm happy to share any details that might help with debugging the issue.
EDIT - More debugging steps
I've also tried following along @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8WbZBvWO30
EDIT 2 - After Contacting Support
Does Garmin monitor the forums? I'm trying to figure out if this is a watch-specific issue or something related to the firmware.
EDIT 3 - Software Update
I saw there was a software update to version is 2.40 (7478ce4). I installed the software and I will be going on a run tomorrow morning. I will update this thread after the run.
EDIT 4 - After Update
Great news - the alerts worked perfectly! Thanks Garmin for squashing this bug.
