It's worth a read - there are a few interesting things within. Most notably, check "Appendix -> Data Fields". Darn near 50 of 'em! I'm thankful to see "Lap Cadence" is back, as real-time fluctuates way too much.

Oh yeah, and "Backlight Settings - Wrist Turn: Allows your device to turn on the backlight automatically when you rotate your wrist toward your body."

Sweet! Looks like Garmin put their A-team on this watch, unlike its predecessor...
  • Fwiw - The Garmin Forerunner folks did run through the post in the last few days and outside of a few tweaks (noted with 'Updated' text), didn't see anything incorrect.

That said, I'll triple-check with them, but would find it strange. Ultimately the FR230/235 looked at the M400 and checked off everything the M400 had that the 220 didn't. Back to Start, VO2Max, Bike mode, etc... - all things Polar had that Garmin didn't at that price range.
  • Didn't doubt that, but remember what happened to the customizable lap screens on your pre-final FR620? ;-)

As I recall they did make it quite soon after initial release on the 620.
Understand the 630 has these but not the 230/235.
  • Important to note that there probably isn't a single Garmin manual that is completely accurate. They rarely update to take into account changes/updates to products once they ship. Looking at the 920 manual for example, they did a manual update in August but still don't mention anything about features like zooming in/out on the map page that was added around February.

Waiting until it ships really is the only way to know what will be there, and then it's only accurate until the first update. In this case, maybe the manual was written before they decided to add "back to start".

    Virtual Partner

    Hi,
someone know if the Virtual Partner function is included in FR235 ? In the manual is not present while in the fr630 manual is present.
  • I believe the 230/235 has a subset of the 630's 'race an activity' called 'Finish Estimator functionality' which is highlighted in the DC Rainmaker article. This is a kind of virtual partner.

  • As was pointed out on the first page, it's not listed in the manual though so it likely won't make it to the shipping version of the 235, maybe later...
  • I would trust more what I see with my own eyes on the DC Rainmaker videos than a manual that was probably written over a month ago.
  • We shall see...again I'll refer you to the "Lap Banner Customization" that DCR had in his beta FR620 http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/09/garmins-running-watches.html and that took 9 months to make it to the public version.
  • Difference there was that the functionality was not actually present. He said "This function wasn’t yet implemented in the units I had, so I don’t have too much more detail here."
