Size of the 235

To be worn as an all-day watch i'm hoping the 235 is thinner than the (now old) 225, which i found a little beefy. And i find it hard to believe Garmin's product page that claims the 230/235/260 all have the same dimensions, and in particular thickness. Does the addition of a HRM really make no difference?!?

What do you think? Does anyone have any better information on just how thick the 235 will be with its HRM?
  • I think I remember from DCR that the 235 has no rubber skirting like the 225. Looking at the pictures the LEDs stick out a bit but if it's like the 225 then this sort of sinks into your arm so it doesn't make the unit look wider. Looking the the pictures I think it's going to be thinner looking than the 225

I have both a 220 and 225 and the 225 is noticeably chunkier than the 220, thickness-wise, even without the rubber. Personally i don't see the 225 as a good day-to-day watch given this (e.g. i keep banging it on things since it sticks out!).

On the other hand, the rubber on the 225 is actually pretty good as it grips your skin and prevents any sliding down the wrist that otherwise might happen when out running. So as a running watch it's great IMHO.

I agree that in the pictures the 235 looks similar to the 230 in thickness, but it's hard to tell.
  • I actually wear my 225 24/7 and don't find it too big. As the weather gets colder it sometimes gets snag on my long sleeve shirts when I take them off but thats a minor inconvenience. Wont the 235 be thinner without the rubber?
  • There are a few hands-on vids (in french) on Youtube, where you can see the 'bump' of the HR sensor clearly protrudes further out than the 230. Not sure how noticeable this will be, but the specs (11.7mm thickness) are not quite accurate, IMO, since they don't seem to be taking this bump into account.

Here is the referenced videos -- as well as images of the "bump".
