EDGE 1000 SHUTS OFF RANDOMLY

This started immediately after firmware 15.30 was loaded. Not sure if that's the reason, but it's the only change that was made. Any help would be appreciated.

I did a little more looking at this. It looks like I have almost no storage left. See the attached. I can view D:, but E: says I need to insert a disk. E: goes away when I unplug the device so it has something to do with the Edge 1000.

When I pull the SD card out and look at it directly, there is almost no space used.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Tough one.  On Garmin Express, you're offered map options.  Try reinstalling the map (a long process).  This should give you more information about the SD card issue.  The SD card should contain over 2 GB for maps (disk image files).

Thanks for the idea. I tried the map install. It's not recognizing the SD card. I tried 2 SD cards (8 GB and 32 GB, both work in other devices) with no luck.

Ultimately this may be a bad connection.  If you don't mind getting in there, the entire back case and battery are replaceable for under $40.  Of course, you'd want to make sure you've done all the obvious troubleshooting first:  master reset, update all software, and clean all ports with alcohol swab.

In addition to not seeing the SD card, the device shuts down randomly while recording a ride. I did a device reset and tried multiple SD cards. All had the same result.

I tried to do a master reset, but that fails because the lap button doesn't seem to work.

T6 torx bit is needed to open the 8 screws.  Once inside you can replace battery and clean things up inside.  Not terribly difficult.

Thanks. I got some help from Garmin. The shutting off problem was because I loaded a course incorrectly. After cleaning up some folders, the shutting down problem is resolved. The SD card is still not being recognized so I might have to go in to do some cleaning.

    • Hi I am also having this problem. Which folders did you clean up?

The unit wound up being damaged and was replaced.
