Can't get ride to start

First time using the computer. When I start riding the bike, a big blue PLAY icon shows up in the middle of the screen of Explorer 2. Pressing it does not cause the ride to start recording. I'm not sure how else to record the ride.

Driving me mad, pls help! I have factory reset the unit already.

There's a start/stop button on the bottom edge of the case. A physical button, not a touchscreen button.
