No Navigation beeps

Hi , I recently bought the Edge Explore and was disappointed too get no direction beeps when approaching a turn it will work through my mobile but not the device , tones is enabled etc , Does the explore only give navigation prompts through a mobile !!  Thanks

  • Tones work perfectly on my unit, beeping 150m before, 70m before and at the time of turning. I never use my Explore connected to my mobile though and so can't say if that affects where the audio is outputted. Have you tried turning off Bluetooth (disconnecting from your phone) to see if the unit beeps then?

  • Thanks interesting to know how the device should work , I’ll try it without Bluetooth if no joy then probably return to Garmin !! Thanks again

  • I do notice in my phone's 'Garmin Connect' app the following setting:

    Explore Icon on Menubar-->Activity Options-->Audio Prompts-->Navigation Alerts

    If your's is set to ON this may be the problem. Try setting it to OFF with the phone still connected and Bluetooth on and see what happens.

  • My Edge Explore beeps but it is not very load. I miss most of them. When I first got it I thought it wasn't beeping. My wife has the same problem with the Explore.

  • Turning Bluetooth off the phone did actually allow the device to emit the dreaded beeps but it was so feint unable to hear against traffic  I will try with Bluetooth enabled and audible prompts off to allow phone notifications, I guess I’ll hang on to the explore now the routing and touchscreen do work well, and now Ive learnt the Forum is the place for answers , Thanks very much guys

  • This is a design fault. If you look at your Explore you'll notice on its underside, right on the mount, four tiny holes. This appears to be the speaker. So when the unit is mounted on the bike the beeps are directed downward AND muffled by the mounting bracket.

    Why the design staff at Garmin decided on this location is a mystery. There is no better place for the speaker to  ensure you won't hear the Explore beeping.

  • The wonderful wold of Garmin !!!

  • There is no better place for the speaker to  ensure you won't hear the Explore beeping.

    Just as there probably was no better place for the speaker to ensure the Explore stays waterproof during heavy rain.

    To be honest, my Edge is completely silent because the beeping and chirping annoys me. And yes, sometimes I miss a turn because of that. But than I think, lets enjoy this extra mileage I would not have done otherwise.

  • Just as there probably was no better place for the speaker to ensure the Explore stays waterproof during heavy rain.

    The problem with that argument is that the designs of the Edge 530, Edge 830 and Edge 1030 debunk it.

    Those preferring silence can disable 'Tones' in Settings. For others that prefer some audible feedback it's reasonable to expect it can be heard.

  • I only have an Edge Explore, no 530/830/1030 so can't speak for those devices.

    But you are right, if a speaker is part of the design, it should serve its purpose correctly.
