Mapping (for a newbie)

Hello - am a newbie to Garmin, have just acquired an Edge Explore (am a tourist, not a racer!).

However, I can't find anywhere an easy explanation of which maps refer to which areas.  There seem to be a lot loaded, and I wonder if I need them all?  I cycle in France, Spain and Andorra at the moment.  The following are all enabled:

INTL Standard Basemap, NR

EU, North East, 2019.10

DEM Map EU 2017.20

Geocode Map EU 2019.10

EU, South West, 2019.10

So any ideas where I can find a link to show me what's what?

TIA Slight smile

  • The following can show the areas covered by the maps.

The basemap is a world map with little data (it's not used for navigation).

The DEM map is elevation data for Europe.

The geocode is addresses for locations (points of interest) in Europe.

The other two maps are the maps that contain the stuff you see on the screen and the routing information.

They cover the Northeast and Southwest parts of Europe.
