Will Edge Explore be upgraded to bike functions from eTrex 35?

I just watched some reviews of eTrex 35 devices on youtube, eTrex 35  are versatile devices targeted for many outdoor activities, including biking. Sadly, the software looks like a polished version of one that is available for Edge Explore and its bike functions look to be much better than Edge, a device dedicated to bikes. For instance, the elevation screen that looks more functional than one on Edge or map view combined with data fields. Plus, a UI overall that looks much better, e.g the pull up overlay menu.

  • I have a Dakota and a lot of my friends are using etrex. There several things that are different on etrex (and dakota) series and edge.

    Etrex pro

    - Barometric pressure;

    - electronic compass;

    - Tempe connection;

    - AA batteries;

    Edge pro

    - Off route alarm and automatic rerouting;

    - GPX routing;

    - komoot and strava route import;

    - connect IQ apps

    My experience with the etrex series is that the software is usually much more stable and reliable than in the edge, things just work. For epic trips I still use the dakota.

  • Thank you, that would support my thoughts. I guess it's the underlying operating system and it's UI engine that is different on eTrex and Ede devices, not sure if the hardware platforms are compatibile. (leaving barometric sensors, compass etc aside.)

    Anyway, Edge software doesn't look like a serious (and what is worse: trusty) piece of software unfortunately and I am astonished how Garmin ignores that.
