Map update issue on my edge explore

Hi,

Yesterday I updated my maps to version 2018.10. Now everything works except that I can no longer search addresses (I am in Region Europe)

I checked my explore for the maps installed and it shows me 3 that are all enabled.

INTL Standard basemap, NR
Garmin cycle map EU, North East
Garmin cycle map EU, South West

You can see the enabled maps in settings - ride settings - map - map information

I think I might be having something missing. Perhaps it is a case of just downloading another map.

I have cleared my device cache, reset to factory settings but still no luck in searching for addresses.

Can anyone advise if there is a way out? I have already reinstalled the maps one more time from the garmin app on my desktop.

Thanks
  • You also need to enable the Garmin Geocode Map EU 2018.10. If not present on the device let Garmin Express re-install the map 2018.10. You should get 4 maps in total, including the DEM map.
  • Thanks I thought I might have missed something.

I did the complete map reinstall again but still the garmin geocode map is missing.

Is there a way in garmin express to only install and enable the geocode map? New to garmin and its app so any help will be much appreciated
  • Is there enough free space on the device? Maybe it's worth a try to first remove extra non-Garmin maps you have installed yourself. The whole 2018.10 mapset takes among 11 Gb storage space. Be very careful when deleting files from your Explore - make a full backup of all folders & files before you start troubleshooting!
If you use an Apple PC then take care to emty the trash.
One other thing may be the version of Garmin Express. Install the newest version 6.9.1.0 (Windows) - older versions had issues with incomplete map-updates.

    No other thougts for now...
  • Issue fixed now. I read on another forum that if you keep your garmin powered off and then connect to the computer things do tend to go wrong.

Reinstalled the maps but this time kept my garmin on before connecting the USB cable.
  • I allways connect my Explore when powered OFF - it comes up in mass storage mode with a new drive letter. This morning updated Garmin Cycle Map EU to version 2018.20 using Garmin Express 6.9.1.0 without issues.
When the Explore is powered ON and I connect it to the PC the Explore poweres OFF and does not come in mass storage mode. I'm using Windows 10 Home 64-bit (1809).
  • Strange, I too am on GE 6.9.1 and Windows 10 64 bit. It failed 2 times for me and the only difference the 3rd time was that my garmin was powered on!

    P. S. I updated last night and it didn't say anything about the new version 2018.20. I am on 2018.10 now.
  • Maybe regional throttling by Garmin?
