Logging a walk with Explore 820

Hi All

I'm new here as I've recently been given an explore 820 by my wonderful wife.
I've been using the device since Xmas and am slowly getting to grips with it.
Although it's mainly for use on my bikes, I would like to use it to keep a record of family walks, which I've done.
Here's the problem.
Although you can't select a walk on the unit, I can edit the activity and change it to a walk once it's uploaded to Garmin Connect.
This is fine, but I have noticed that it still adds the walked miles to my gear (the bike).
Is there any way around this as I'd like to keep a record of both walked and cycled miles in one place, but still be able to have an accurate account of the mileage that has been put onto the bike?

Many thanks in advance.
  • On my connect account I have three bikes set up in "gear", and switch them manually according to which one I have used for that ride. Have you thought about "adding gear", i.e an additional bike, but naming it "family walks" or similar?

    Steve

    Thanks Steve.

Yes I have x3 "gear", x2 bikes, x1 walking boots.
I have unassigned my mountain bike as default to an activity and am now editing the activity in Connect after its uploaded, i.e selecting what type of activity I've done and assigning a piece of gear to it.
Seems stupid that you can't set a mtb profile and have a specific bike assigned to it, and then another set up for the road bike etc...
Also it would be good if when you add a bike in "Gear", you can set the mileage that has already been accumulated during the time you've had the bike.
Although the Garmin unit is good and I'm enjoying using it, it kind of feels like it sand especially the Connect app have been produced by someone who doesn't actually know what is required by the end user.
It could work so much better.
