Problems with 820 explore

I'm hoping someone can help. I bought the Edge 820 explore. It was connected to Garmin Express and said it needed to update. The update failed and now the touch screen doesn't work. I have tried reconnecting to Garmin Express, which is now showing 'add device', when I try to add it, I get to adding it and keep getting 'we are having trouble connecting to our servers, please try again'. I click try again and get the same thing. The device is pretty much useless.

Having the same issue with mine after update to 4.10. Found this in the EDGE 820 thread but didn't work!
It sounds like the touch screen update did not get applied correctly.

If you can get it to go in to mass storage then go to the Garmin\RemoteSW software folder and delete the following file.

    006B255000.GCD

Download the zip file. Unpack it and place the file in the Garmin\RemoteSW folder. Restart the Edge and see if it applies the update.
  • If you look in the Garmin folder on the Edge do you see the following 2 files?

    Device.fit
    GarminDevice.xml

Just to clarify Alan. After the update from Garmin Express on startup the EDGE shows Failed Update, I think straight after the Touchscreen update part of boot up. It continues to boot but the touchscreen is totally dead although the buttons still work. I have tried a factory reset (holding both lap and start/stop buttons on restart) but still no touchscreen. If I remove the 006B255000.GCD file from the RemoteSW folder, then it boots without the failed update message but still no touchscreen. I can connect it to Garmin Express and it syncs fine saying all software is up to date with version 4.10 installed. Very frustrating. Not much use without the touchscreen!

Is yours the same with the touchscreen not working? Looks like we may have a dodgy software update!!

    >>Changes made from version 3.20 to 4.10:
    >>Added Touch Sensitivity setting to improve touchscreen performance with gloves and in wet conditions.
  • Could you post the Garmin\GarminDevice.xml file, that would let me see what updates have been applied?
