Garmin power pack and edge 820

i bought a Garmin Power Pack for my edge 820, missing the fact it's primarily designed for the Garmin 1030.
Issues I have - T

The front mount is sealed and does not allow for the battery extension to be inserted all the way through. I am presuming this is because it's the 820 and not 1030.

I, therefore, presumed that the attachment that comes with the battery will somehow attach to the mount with screws. I cannot, however, attach the battery to it and hold the battery.

I have been online looking for a video to illustrate what to do and have not found one.

I would be most grateful of any assistance. Have a 200km bike ride soon and thought that this was a neat though expensive way to charge the bike computer. However its become at present an expensive waste of money.

  • The one included with your Edge 820 simply is not compatible with the Charge Battery Pack.

If you want to stick it under your mount you need to get a Flush Out-Front Mount
    T
hat mount has "a hole" in the center and you can replace the insert with the one of your Charge Battery Pack.
You can see the difference in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPj6snxhQrE

  • The 820 does not have contacts on its back to connect with the battery pack.  The only way to get power to an 820 is via a micro USB cable.

  • Good on you.  It's probably good to mention here as I don't think most 820 users peruse the 1030 forum.

  • Many thanks. And this is the source of my frustration. After having spent $100 plus for the battery I now need to spend an additional $40 for a Flush Out-Front mount that IS compatible with the battery pack AND money on the cable. The flush-out front mount that I use with my 820 IS NOT compatible with the battery. Please feel free to look yourself with your 820 flush out-front mount.

    This is my complaint.

I fully understand the 820 does not have contacts on its back. I have one and that's why I moved over to this forum as suggested in the 1030 forum.

back to taping the battery to my mount :-)

  • Might be frustrating to hear, but I do own a Edge 1030, no Charge Battery Pack.

I have looked up all the information I gave from official product pages. Took less than 5 minutes to look those up.

You don't buy a random starter battery for your car and complain about not fitting in yours...

  • Thank you bw,

I feel compelled to write in response and highlight buying a Garmin battery pack for a Garmin edge 820 that in the literature states is compatible, is not the equivalent of what you state in your comment.

I initially reached out because I thought I was doing something incorrectly. It's clear that is not the case. And for that, I think the discussion is worthwhile.

Hopefully, others that have an edge 820 who read this will at the very least check their out-front mount before purchasing and not trust what they read and perhaps, think twice before purchasing. So that's an added benefit.

I thank everyone for their comments. I consider this matter now closed.
