Edge 820 - 12.60 Navigation broken?

'Upgraded' Edge 820 to 12.60 on Friday and navigation now seem to be completely broken. select course, Start navigation - Device immediatly loses the courses, then claims no route is active.

"Made various device stability improvements"

Coulda fooled me.

Anyone know how to roll back to 12.50

  • You want to follow instructions they posted. Use the 12.40 as the beta is nothing more than 12.60. You will need to rename it as stated.

    Thanks RADICKOL

I see that they are both in the zip file.

  • Yes. At the bottom of the link( https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=10356#Instruct ) are the install instructions. It explains in step 4 if you wish to install the 12.40 then you just copy that unpacked file to the edge and rename it.

    Installation Instructions

    1. Connect your Edge 820 to your computer using the USB cable.
    2. Download and unzip Edge820_12.43Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder of your device's internal storage drive.
    3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
    4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE-1240.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.

Rolling back, while is a short term workaround, is a total faff and pain in the *** to right a wrong by releasing another gash s/w drop.

where are the Garmin bods on here to offer support and a steer - its been 20+ days since the release and frustrations for some users going off these forums.

  • Spoke to soon. Removed and reinstalled a couple of maps and all looked OK until I rebooted, then the elevation data disappeared. Resorted to performing a factory reset to sort it out. Well done Garmin, there's nothing like QA testing!

    • This same happened to me three weeks ago after installing the software update, load the route, it shows the map but says I'm OFF COURSE  and no turn by turn navigation, called Garmin support, apparently they are or will be looking at a fix, one suggestion though, load your course while the device is on but don't turn it off,if you turn the device off, it won't properly load the course

Hi riprazor, I did exactly what you did importing to my Garmin connect then sending to device and it works, however if I turn off the device and restart it, for instance if I load the course the night before, the course won't properly load. So the trick is, turn on the device, then load the course from garmin connect, not a solution but an alternative

Ready to buy a Wahoo Elemnt... Garmin live track regularly doesn’t work (even before this update) and since the update, turn-by-turn doesn’t work, even when just free riding I lose satellites several times during a ride.

  • Hi All,

As the instigator of this thread I thought I ought to make an appearance! Thank you all for your comments and dealings with Garmin.  Needless to say the 'fix' of doing a factory reset on my device only worked for one ride, so I shall be rolling back to 12.40 if and when I can be bothered.  It's completely ridiculous for a company to be a releasing software which renders large parts of it's functionality unusable and i'm deeply disappointed in Garmin. Hopefully they'll learn from this (though if the report I've read about previous broken updates are anything to go by I doubt it).

    Happy riding.

    Mike

  • Rolled back to 12.40 by following the instructions in this thread. All seems OK now.
