Edge 820 ANT+ sensor dropout

Hello

I have an Edge 820 that occasionally drops all of its ANT+ and BT connections

I am using it with a stages gen 2 power meter, garmin speed sensor fitted to the front hub, and Garmin chest strap HR monitor

Every now and again it will just drop all of these connections including the BT connection to my iPhone (which I use for the LiveTrack feature)

The 820 is installed with firmware version 12.50

When it happens I have not been able to wait for it to reconnect (as I don't want to stand around mid ride) and I'm not sure if it will or not without a reboot

I have just been nervously powering down the 820 and when it re starts, it allows me to continue my route and the connections are restored.

Any idea what the issue is please?

The last time it happened was at 5h44m on this activity, as shown by the drop in HR signal. As soon as I realised I stopped the ride and rebooted the unit.

  • Well, the 820 must have known I was talking about it, the same day I mention it not working correctly, it drops its connections again a mile from leaving home, I attempted to power it down like before (after waiting a few minutes this time for it to reconnect) it froze on the Garmin logo screen (turning off) a quick google said to push the two bottom buttons which I did, then when it powered back on, it had COMPLETELY reset.

I've now had to re program it again, pair it with my phone again, set up the activity screens data fields, pair the sensors etc. It's completely wiped the activity history. If it had done the same on the above activity almost 6 hours in, I would have been really upset.

The last time it dropped its sensors that I can remember was during a ride on 21st May, and again on the 8th June. So it's not happening super often, and today is the first time it's properly crashed.

  • Update, Garmin have now replaced my unit under warranty, no dropouts yet on the new unit.
