New Public Beta 10.24 Now Available

New Beta software for the Edge 820 has been released. Full change log, instructions and software for installing the beta can be found here.

  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.
Changes made from version 10.00 to 10.24:
  • New Beta Feature: Galileo satellites. There is now support to use the Galileo network of satellites to assist in getting GPS fixes. With the correct GPS firmware, this option can be enabled by selecting GPS+Galileo in the GPS setting. Sync the device with Garmin Express to make sure that the new line of GPS firmware is provided to the device. Without this, the option will not be available.
  • Updated smart notification categories. In the phone settings, social and other smart notification categories can be enabled. This will make the Edge show notifications from other applications depending on how they are categorized by Garmin Connect Mobile. Apps like WhatsApp, GroupMe, and Twitter may show up under social and things like e-mail, calendar, and news may show up under other. These categories are off by default and must be enabled to be seen.
  • Fixed an issue causing cadence and power data dropouts.
  • Updated indoor trainer UI to properly disable GPS when activated and no longer try to calculate routes while active.
  • Fixed issue where FTP data would not be uploaded to Garmin Connect correctly.
  • Fixed crash when doing a calculation with automotive routing selected.
  • Added ability to select CIQ data fields on the map page.
  • Added prompt to indicate when a course has more course points than are supported by the device.
  • Fixed issue with transmitting front and rear gear information to the Varia Vision.
  • Added ability to stop the course from the course review page of the active course to make it easier to reactivate a course.
  • Updated the incident detection interface to better indicate when the user is trying to dismiss the page by holding the specified area.
  • Fixed issue where auto brightness would be enabled incorrectly at boot.
  • Added the current software version to the power on page.
  • Fixed issue with device transfers.
  • Completing a segment will now turn on the backlight.
  • Added a minimum scale to the altimeter page so that small elevation ranges are reflected properly.
  • Minor graphics improvements.
  • Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.
Installation Instructions
  • Connect your Edge 820 to your computer using the USB cable.
  • Download and unzip Edge820_1024Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  • Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  • If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE-1020.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults. NOTE: For this beta, 10.20 and 10.00 are the same software. 10.20 is being provided as the recovery software intentionally and should be treated the same as 10.00.

    Cannot select GPS/GALILEO.
    Which version is the correct GPS firmware? My has 4.40 and in GE i have no option to update the GPS firmware?!
    Can i download manually the soft?

    When will you fix the problem with map selection?

    When you change the map on a profile, you change in ALL profiles! This is very anoying!

    how do you categorize the notifications into Social/Other etc? The garmin connect app doesn't seem to have this option.

    Updated to beta 10.24 but doesn't update the GPS firmware also connecting the device to a pc with Garmin express.

    Update to beta 10.24 & GPS firmware 2.30 (after reconnecting twice to garmin express, synchro & reboot)
    - One shutdown/restart during ride
    - problem with strava segment
    1. display Timeahead & Distance Ahead while being behind.
    2. lost course (automatic starred strava segment) during ride (one that I know being always tricky to follow, as with edge 810). so I asked to follow again after selecting it in "training": proposed me to ride it, but never started: don't know if it would have started if I had returned to the beginning of the segment...

    Downloaded 10.24 beta and enabled Galileo. While riding a pre-programmed course I've ridden a few times, the unit indicated I was off course ~20 times during a 2 hour ride. I'll go back to GPS only (which is more than adequate for me). If I get the course messages again, I'll roll back to 10.0.
