"Sensor Found" notifications during ride - Using version 10.0

I can't remember if and how often I may have gotten the "sensor found" notification banner during rides with earlier firmware versions. But I get them frequently with version 10.0. I probably got the message a half dozen times or more on today's 50 mile group ride with 12 of us. Because I was riding and the lettering is small, I don't know if the sensors detected were mine or another rider's. Looking at this version's fixes, it shows that it "cleaned up" some of these notifications. Some? What does that mean? And when the notifications are displayed during a ride with others, whose sensors is the Garmin 820 detecting? I am not seeing dropouts of my data as far as I can tell.
  • OnlyTwo,
That's not my question. I know how to find my sensors and their ID numbers. I want to know whether the notifications are for my sensors or another rider's. I can't take time to read the ID numbers displayed in the "sensor found" notifications during my ride in a pace line. They are displayed for a few seconds and then vanish. I just need to know why the notifications are popping up and whose sensors they refer to when mine seem to be displaying data without dropping out.
  • I looked at my fit file for the ride referenced in my first post above using the Runanalyze fit2tcx link. I did not see anything that looked like a dropout or reconnection. I suspect what happened was I got the "found sensor" message banner when resuming the ride after a complete stop at a light or similar. It could have even been when pedaling again after coasting. I have now made note of my sensor ID numbers and may be able to note which sensor(s) are associated with the messages. I will try to pay more attention on conditions when I see the message again. The Fit File Repair Tool seems to much labor to install Access for this purpose. Thanks for the replies.
  • Exactly the same happened on mine recently. Since changing the battery on both speed and cadence sensors, no more dropouts / notifications
  • Hi there! In may case the sensors keep connecting an disconnecting but not during a ride, but while having a break. Even if the unit remains on bike during a break, it keeps connecting and disconencting speed and cadence sensors. That happens alle the time since FW10.0 have been released. Batteries are fresh.

What can I do with that issue?
  • Hi All,
Same issue for me with speed and cadence sensor ! FW10.0 and fresh battery.
Multiple reconnections during the ride make me loose number of Km !
Any patch or FW update ?
    Thx
  • to all

what you can do is contact Garmin support by phone and tell them about your mishap

in the mean time are you willing to upload your fit file here in the forum or provide a link to a cloud storage ?

we can use the above mentioned Fit File Repair Tool to check sensor handling by the edge and a bit more :)

    happy biking

here is my fit file, where this problem with sensors was present; hope that solves something
  • Hi All !
Here are my files. The first one (2018-10-20-08-24-00.fit) recorded with Garmin 820 FW10.0 where 5kms are missing and I had during the ride a lots of "sensor found". The other one (8AK82354.FIT) for comparison recorded with Garmin 735 connected to the same sensors at the same time but with a lose of cadense sensor after lunch break.
I didn't really understand how to analyse the files.
    Thx a lot
  • OnlyTwo : I'm using the Wahoo Blue SC spd&cad sensor. Battery is brand new on this sensor as I changed it last week.
Thanks for your analysis. Any ideas of how to solve this issue ?
  • I've been getting the same thing, multiple times per ride. I have a Varia 510, and get a disconnect notice, when I look at my 820, I see that both my HR (Garmin HRM-Tri) & power meter's (Favero Assioma pedals) data screens freeze. In a few seconds when the "disconnect" notice goes away, everything works fine. It's quite annoying.
  • All, contact Garmin Support by phone and tell them about your mishap

The product manager for the Garmin Edge 820 should already be aware of the issue because he is supposed to be monitoring this forum.
