Edge 820 - Long routing Calculation/ Smart Notifications

Hi,

i recently bought a Garmin 820 Bundle. The routing calculation for tracks i made with Garmin Connect take "forever", for a route that is around 50KM's long, it takes approx. 15-25min. . That can't be inteded this way ? The route is alread made with Garmin Connect, and "just" have to be applied to the maps and actual position ? Furthermore, if you, for any reason, leave the route - start praying - there is a very good chance that it take at least the same time again with a good chance of never getting back to turn based navigation.

Is there a fix, or is this really how this is supposed to be ? (because then it is kind of useles i have to say)

The other thing is Smart Notifications:

It is clearly stated on Amazon (germany) that there are Smart Notification from Social Networks, emails, Messengers, and so on. However, all i can configure is SMS and Calls ? I also checked the Garmin Website, it also says "Smart Notifications".

How are they enabled ? It is an advertised feature i would like to use to some extent.

thank you in advance !

cheers,
d

Time for route calculations can vary very much depending on the maps used, so I would suggest you to remove/deactivate any maps other than garmin cycle or a similar good quality routable map. Sometimes after messing around with different connectIQ data fields and maps my unit behaved like you are describing, and usually reseting the device and creating a new activity profile from scratch gets the unit back to more reasonable calculation times. In any case, I avoid recalculations while routing because it can be very messy. After updating the garmin cycle map my unit turned extremely slow and I just repeated the map install.

As for the smart notifications, edge units only receive SMS and calls while other notifications are not transmittted by design. The reason is very simple: edge units are meant to be used while driving. Forerunner watches can be configured to receive other notifications, but cycling edge units can't.

That's too long a time. My ancient 800 doesn't take anywhere that long. The 820 appears to be considerably slower than the 1000 but it shouldn't be taking that long to calculate a route.

There is no magic in Garmin Connect. The different route planners all produce the same files (with slight irrelevant differences).

I'm assuming you just have the Gamin map installed.

There's no "just" there. What these units do to create a route isn't trivial. I don't use recalculation (I don't find it necessary at all).
