difference from edge 820 and fenix 5x

Hello i have a garmin edge 820 and garmin fenix 5x using to tracking my road cycling activity but found difference in avg speed, time in zones. I use the same hrm, speed sensor and cadence sensor from my edge 820 bundle. I connect all sensor to 820 and fenix 5x and starting on the same position and the same position stop.

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2736391798
on first activity edge 820 - distance 34.07km time 1:03:49 avg.spd 32km/h elevation gain 142m calories 929
time in zone (z1-0:18) (z2-1:43) (z3-18:50) (z4-41:50) (z5-1:05)

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2736397254
on the activity on fenix 5x - distance 34.25km time 1:03:50 avg.spd 32.2km/h elevation gain 131m calories 801
time in zone (z1-0:18) (z2-1:15) (z3-13:19) (z4-47:11) (z5-1:48)

are somebody know why is this big difference
Thanks
  • Do you have the same wheel size and HR zones set-up on both units?
Is auto-pause configured the same on both units?
  • Your total distances are actually acceptably close to each other and the average speed is just your total distance divided into your total time (doesn't use the speed sensor I don't believe for that calc). As far as the calories and zones - your zones don't appear to be set up similarly on each device. With that said just looking at your time spent in each zone you should have burned more calories according to the 5X data rather than the Edge but clearly it disagrees somehow. I've never read too much into the calorie burn numbers, I've often found them wildly inaccurate.

I would also make sure that your HRM is truly connected to the 5X and that it isn't just showing your wrist-based HR when you think it's actually paired to the HR strap. Are the heart rates that each unit displays identical to each other at any given point? (EDIT: it looks like they're identical so it's probably just a zone difference in setup)
  • I will check HR zone on the both device, thanks bglover11 . aweatherall wheel size is auto calibrate when start riding auto-pause is on to the both device
    Thanks.
