Edge 820 Issues with Long Rides - 300 km / 200 miles and over?

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has tackled any long rides with their Edge 820 and whether it had any issues saving files for rides that are over 300 km or 200ish miles? I recall this was a major issue with the older devices (Edge 800/810) and they would routinely fail when trying to save the ride, possibly due to the limited RAM on the device?

Yesterday I tackled 280 km (175 miles) in just under 10 hours and it looks as though the battery life will be sufficient for a 200-miler, but I was just wondering whether this previous issue has been fixed in the Edge 820? Obviously I can split it up into multiple files, but I'd rather log it all as one if possible.

Has anyone out there successfully logged a single 200-mile ride with their 820?

Many thanks, Adam

Edited to add: I'm running firmware version 9.0 and will be using it with a power meter if that's important.

Has noone tackled any rides of this length with their Edge 820?
  • Rode 325 km with 820. Registration was OK (1 sec interval). Only problem was power, you need a batterypack after 6 to 7 hours to keep the thing alive! Poor design in my opinion. It is not the only problem of this GPS.......
  • 270km...no issues! 9.20h riding with navigation turn by turn..only thing is that, if u scroll the pages quickly, when switch to the map page loading takes a while...but just few seconds. Gps+glonass With battery pack. I saved the files without problem via smartphone pairing. Excellent
