EDGE 820 battery save mode won't go to sleep/ problems during activity

edge 820 Version 9.0.0.0
while "batery save mode" is activated, an hour or so into an activity it no longer goes into "sleep mode". In other words, it shows the data screens like you were not in batter save mode.
swiping down on the screen, shows the unit is still in "batterey save mode". I have tried de-activating BSM and then re-activating BSM. No luck going to sleep.
Pressing stop, and saving the ride, the starting an new activity the unit works. However after an hour or two of riding, the Edge won't stay asleep.
This occurs whether I am following a course or not. I have tried leaving the edge in different screens to see if it will sleep, no luck.

Also is anyone else having problems with sweat hitting the screen and erratic Edge behavior? The unit thinks a drop of sweat is the same as a finger. Actually, the sweat drops seem to be more effective at screen push. Sometimes it takes three or four tries with my finger to get the Edge to respond.... My edge 810 had a much better touch screen, but it continuously crashes during long rides or when following a route/course requiring a hard reset and then losing all data.

Just experienced the same thing on my last 2 200km rides. First ride battery save mode was on and screen would not sleep so after 100KM the system shut down as battery flat!. Yesterday same thing. Restarted system after 60km this time and the battery save mode kicked in turning off the display after a few seconds. Later ie 100km through stopped working and screen stayed on. Workaround seemed to be changing back to home screen then back to activity screen seemed to make it sleep. Any ideas anyone ?
