Firmware 9.00 is rubbish

Since upgrading to 9.00 my Edge 820 and iPhone will no longer remember the pairing (I am using the latest version of Connect and iOS), route calculations which too 30-40 seconds now take 3-4 minutes, it is a rubbish upgrade, yet again Garmin have been successful in making things worse.

I have downgraded to 8.80 and my iPhone will pair and route calculations are back less than a minute.
  • Received an email from Garmin support today recommending that I continue using 8.8 forward because Apple isn't providing updates to my iPhone.


    I would continue using 8.8 because it's the one that works! No way I'm downgrading to 9.0/9.1 and rendering my 820 useless

    I do have the same problem:
    Config:
    Edge 820 sw version 9.0 or 9.1
    Iphone 6s+ IOS 11.4

    Pairing successfully done with GC 4.7.x

    As soon as I leave the GC app, the EDGE says Phone disconnected.
    Tried to contact garmin and got just the copy paste reply from the user manual text.
    Got bit more naughty then managed to get the above bull*** on how to do the tricky removal of old devices and repair.
    NONE of them worked.
    Even though the edge seemed to stay connected to the phone with GC app turned off, it did not after power cycling the edge.
    So back to the problem.
    Did remove my fenix 5x also, tried everything and it just DOES NOT WORK!
    As long as the app is running, it is connecting.
    Seems like a BT "trust" problem which is given by the app but not remembered if you power cycle the EDGE.
    It indeed remembers the fenix but not the EDGE.

    GARMIN !!!!! Fix this problem! OSTRICH! Get your head out of the sand!

    Ok. Just downgraded to 8.70 thanks to the above mentioned website. Had to re setup everything but it worked so happy now!
    Garmin, fix the problems!

    We certainly understand there is some frustration with the device not pairing back up with some of your phones after the 9.00 update. Please reach out to our support team for assistance so we can help.


    "Some of your phones" suggests a minor issue. Can we assume Garmin are not bothering to give this issue a serious response?
    Here's a template: "We know v9 has caused havoc with your expensive device, and reduced its capabilities to something akin to the year 2000. But we are working through the night to fix it. No need to "reach out" as we will will be back pronto with a fix!"
    I "reached out" three days ago and yet to hear anything. I appreciate the advice of my fellow users on the forum, thank you all, but I would prefer the Garmin I paid for to be restored.

    As I've said before, Garmin doesn't have to fix what Garmin doesn't acknowledge as a problem. They never actually address anything.. they just eventually sneak little fixes into future updates (9.2, 9.3 etc) that magically make the device a little more (but not totally) usable again. It would be safe to assume that nobody is "looking into" anything

    Hi Trevor,

    I'm suffering serious battery draining with my Edge 820; even with all battery saving tricks enabled my device's dead after 3-4 hours. I have the problem since last year, tried everything, so my last attempt is to downgrade the firmware to an old version. Firmware 8.70 seems to be a stable version plus it was released at the time I had NO issues at all with my battery.

    So, could you please make this GCD file available for me again (hope you still have it :-)).
