Screen Halo has gone to a new level.

So I have had the infamous 'halo' for a while but my unit was 100% otherwise. So rather than introduce issues, I decided the halo was a small price for a unit that had no other issues whatsoever.

Well, turned it on today and all seemed ok, when the screen flashed black to show me a live segment, I seen the top right corner of the screen and what looks to be complete delamination of a screen layer.

It very noticeable now with the screen turned off and while its not causing any touchscreen issues at the moment, it might if it gets any bigger.

In hindsight, I should have sent it in for warranty when the halo started. Its now 20 months since I bought the first 820, though it was replaced Jan 17 as the original had a power on issue from new. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1329822.jpg
  • I'm in the same boat, second unit has now got a very noticeable halo, trouble is it's now 20 months since the original purchase. What do you think the chances of Garmin UK replacing it again are?

  • The halo is due to materials insanely quick aging, this cannot be fixed by SW.

Right, Indoor it seems to be better, outdoor with sunlight it is the same than before...

Hi Shawn will Garmin replace if I bought the 820 when it first came out? I’m having screen halo issues unit hasn’t been used much (approx 111hrs). Will Garmin help me get this replaced?

I noticed my screen looking funny and made it hard to read the data while riding the last few weekends but thought it was bc of sunlight reflecting the screen until today I noticed it when the screen was off indoors and stumbled upon these forums on the issue. A tad disheartening to see this widespread issue for this unit but I’ve loved the unit. I would like assistance before it gets worse.

Shawn-Garmin, i also have the same issue with my 820, i already noticed this few months back but just recently it became very visible specially during outdoor usages and turning off the device will show the halos/lines clearly. Thanks!ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1393733.jpg
  • Yes, Garmin does a good job in replacing unit under warranty. But what do you believe you get in return ? A brand new unit with the same issue that will cook up and appear few months later.
That's my experience. 1 unit replaced, the second showing same problem.

Really unacceptable in this price range, chinese display makers know how to deal with this issue that Garmin keeps facing.

Hello,I am also a owner of a edge 820 unit, halo effect the last 3 months is very visible on my screen,I bought my device from wiggle,my question is where to make contact for my defected device, wiggle or Garmin Greece?unit is still under Guarantee!thanks in advance!
  • PacxosC73: You have two options - Wiggle, or Garmin UK. I had the same problem 6 months ago and Wiggle managed everything for me + they gave me two options - just replace the unit for a new one, or money. I took the second option and bought 1030.... Don't do the same mistake as me, because now I have the same problem on bigger screen (at least it is not so crazy slow as 820 is).

The best thing is they will replace the unit within 2 year warranty without any problem and once it ends, then you just have an unit with a broken screen. In this case if it would be possible, then request the money back and buy Wahoo...
  • My 3º unit is coming from garmin next week. let´s see how many time this one takes to appear halo again :-(

I also have 3rd unit. Halo usually starts about 6 or 4 month of everyday use. I saw the beginning of halo on my unit. Replacement was in may '18.
