Display Brighness Auto setting

Hello, just joined and already having Fun!!! (not) with this little demon

To start with, can't get why auto brighness makes the backlight compete with the sun. The display is the type that needs no backlight
when there's external light so why burn up battery in the middle of a summer's day?
oooh, sun's out, turn up the backlight please!
Yes you can set backlight timeout but then you need to tap screen twice to get control, once first, to just bring backlight back and then still burn battery for the new timeout period.
Or you can set backlight to 0% and actually luckily, find that no first tap is needed.
Garmin auto brightness needs to be the other way round. to make backlight come on only when darkness falls.
Why do we need to keep dreaming up workarounds just because the developers can't get their act together?

Sorry but have been driven mad already by so many stupid things with this little rogue!

  • I've only had my 820 for about 4 weeks but my experience with the backlight has been quite the opposite of yours.. maybe I'm the anomaly. My backlight (in auto) works just like I'd think it needs to with full bright being in complete darkness then fading to 0% the brighter the ambient light becomes. Latest firmware on mine
