No more decimal for the gradient

Since 8.40 update there is no more decimal for the gradient : we have 8%, 9% but no more 8,5%.
Have you noticed the same thing ?
  • That was in the release note for 8.40. Changes made from version 8.00 to 8.40:
    • Made several improvements to course navigation to make turn-by-turn instructions more robust.
    • Improved the user interface for Shimano Di2 sensors.
    • Improved the user interface for Vector setup.
    • Fixed an issue that could prevent bike light networks from reforming.
    • Fixed issues with embedded segments in courses.
    • Added the option to use a map turn pop-up. This can be found in Activity Profile settings under the Navigation menu.
    • Updated precision of the Grade data field to whole %'s.
  • Thanks you fot your answer.
Do you think the decimal will come again in a futur update ?
  • I would doubt it. It is really a force level of precision.

Yeah, I noticed that in the list of "improvements" in the latest firmware. Funny how people complain about the inaccuracies of the gradients/elevation calculated and displayed by various Edge devices, so as a result Garmin's solution was to simply reduce the precision to whole numbers. I haven't upgraded yet since I sort of liked the tenths, even though I guess its accuracy is completely dependent on the barometric pressure. Luckily, where I live the weather doesn't change all that much during the course of a ride so the numbers are fairly stable.

For the record, gradient has always seemed to be an issue with the various models I've owned (705, 500, 800. 810, and now 820).

Once should consider it's really meaningless to display 1 decimal for the gradient. Measure is not accurate enough to have this ,x grounded to any reality...

It was the same when lots of people were complaining about the accuracy of GPS traces on various devices; lo and behold a month or so later, they made the course line on the Garmin Connect map a lot fatter so that it wasn't as noticeable!

I thought the gradient values on the 800 were good, but in reality not that useful.
