Screen halo

My screen has a halo around it that you can see when the backlight is off - like a film on the screen is delaminating from the edges inward. Is this something that I need to send to Garmin to replace?

Word of warning. I've got the same problem with my Edge 820 which i bought when they first came out in July 2016. When i spoke to Garmin UK, they told me basically go do one.

    That's annoying.

I'm also in the UK, had this issue and they replaced it with a brand new unit within a week; crucially mine was still within the warranty period though.

Disappointing that they wouldn't help you out though, especially considering it seems like a common issue.
  • Tell me about it. They denied all knowledge so I had to direct them to their own forum site. Que silence for 5mins and then the response back that it will still cost be ?82 quid.
Consider a Garmin employee and moderator has posted on this very thread its a bit disgraceful.

  • Don't rest your case. Write an email to the main office instead, and make a complaint. The screens are faulty and has an obvious design issue. Garmin can't deny that!
  • I have exactly the same issue. It has just started in the last week. In sunlight, navigation instructions are unreadable. I haven't been using a year yet. 12/4/16 was first use. I have called Garmin Support and they are sending me a replacement.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1268557.jpg
  • Well, the replacement unit that Garmin sent me has started exhibiting the same Halo so I guess it's not really fixed. Not sure what else to do except try to contact them and see if they'll replace it again? I don't really see the point if the end result is always going to be the same.

Hmmm, mine is with Garmin support at the moment, it has been assessed as faulty and I have been told they will ship a new unit to me next week....... if it is going to end up the same not sure what I will do with it. May be time to upgrade, down grade or as much as I would do it begrudgingly swap brands...... time to think

  • Well Garmin has designed and produced a very expensive unit. They should change that design and offer new units to the customers! They are getting to easy away with this! They know about the problem! They replace most units, but are very silent about this. They shouldn't be.

In Denmark we have 2 year warranty. If we have a faulty item fixed or replace, the warranty (on the fixed issue) is another new 2 years. I don't about other countries... But in my case I will send it back every time the halo comes back.

That is a great scenario but although I may be wrong I believe that here in Oz the warranty, which is 12months doesn’t extend to the new unit. So my replacement will be effectively out of warranty. Hence my thoughts on changing brands........
  • I'm having the halo pretty constantly now, has been on and off for a couple of months.. now its there if I'm outside at all pretty annoying, I tried emailing the support team no response ill call tomorrow fingers crossed.. (1 year 3 months old)

  • Replaced by Garmin Netherlands a week ago. Brand new unit in box with mount etc. No questions asked. 10 months warranty left from the initial 2 years warranty.
