My screen has a halo around it that you can see when the backlight is off - like a film on the screen is delaminating from the edges inward. Is this something that I need to send to Garmin to replace?
Exact after 10month of usage mine Garmin Edge 820 got a halo. I returned the Garmin under warranty and I got a new one. Fingers crossed if it does not happen after another 10 months. Luckily I have extended the warranty to 5 years.
Yes, I am having mine replaced also. After 5 months use... Must be expensive for Garmin. I am pretty sure that all units will have this halo after they are exposed to sunlight and heat... The problem is that we get these new refurbished units. And after a while the halo will be visible here too... Hopefully we can get new ones after the warranty is expired... But for how long?
I got the blue frame and returned my 820 on 15th July 2017 almost exactly a year since I got it. I didn't need to prove it was still under warranty as the release date was 13th July 2016. I had to wait about a month for a new unit.
It it looks like a manufacturing fault as there appear to be so many with this frame fault. I'm looking forward to another year until it happens on this new unit.
i also noticed changes in the unit. For starters the Garmin logo on the front was a different colour and the unit is much slower for example redrawing maps booting and a few other things
i think this needs a fix and recall as it's an obvious manufacturing fault .
I wonder if the new 1030 is heading this way
edit I thought I should add this started after buying the Garmin Radar. I'd used the Radar on the 820 on both sides of the screen and thought this might have been the problem.

Can you tell us some more about this extended warranty cheers
I noticed the same after around 1 year of use. Would exchange but heard that new units are heavier (than original 68 gr) and slower in response. Can anyone confirm this ?
