Reversed courses in Edge 820

Hi

I did a ride from A to B with Egde 820, and decided to create a course for it, both original direction and reverse.

In Garmin connect on the web I
1) created a course for it and gave it a name.
2) then I created another course based on the same ride but went into the settings and reversed it and gave it another name to separate the two
3) used the phone app to send both courses to Edge 820

They appear as 2 different courses in the Edge 820 unit, but when I click the map, the start and end points are not reversed for the reversed copy, and it will exclaimed "finished" when I try to start the reversed course.

Again, double checking the courses in Garmin connect web/phone app, they have reversed start/end points and looks just fine, but in Edge (yes the names are different) they are identical.

Is this a bug? Known issue? What would be the best solution or workaround for this?

Cheers,

Andreas

Could be a bug with the reveser course function. Never used that. Always reversed my courses with java app routeconverter, if I want to have same way back. Mostly not neccessary, cause when navigating with a track and you want to navigate back can use return to start and choose use same route.
  • I have no answers your questions except perhaps for a work-around. I use RWGPS to layout courses because,IMO, its tools, map options, functionality, and usability are way better than Garmin Connect. What I do that works is use RWGPS to lay out the outbound course, name and save it. I lay out the inbound course manually, name and save it. RWPS has a reverse course option but I haven't used it recently with the 820 so don't know if it would run into the same problem, but I suggest trying it.

    Thanks!

I was able to reverse the course using the java tool and successfully copied it to the New Files folder on the edge.
Neither the Java tool nor Edge 820 seem to let me rename it, but I guess I can use a text editor for editing the name tags in xml.

Would be nice if I could import the course back into garmin connect from the Edge, but couldn't find an obvious way to do that. Have you done it?

Routeconverter ( http://www.routeconverter.com) can rename the name of the Track or Route. There is a panel on the left side where you can edit the name. This Name is the name the edge shows the Track in the saved course menu later. The file itself must be renamed with the PC if you want to .You can upload the course on the Connect Web site as a course in the courses section.
