Corrupt Fit file

Former Member
Former Member
My son did his first road race ever yesterday and was using an Edge 820. I believe that his 820 crashed right after the race and as a result his .fit file seems to be corrupt. Is there anyone that can repair it for me?

I probably wouldn't care so much about this if this wasn't his first race ever.

On a side note, his 820 seems to be crashing a lot so I suppose I'll be calling Garmin support.

    hi Nick,

You'd be better posting this in the Vector thread - some of the Garmin Vector guys are active in there and should be able to give you the answers you're after.

    cheers
    Mike
  • Thanks Mike - I'll do that.

    hi Nick,

I have just had a look at your file and the first thing that stands out is that the battery state of your pedals is being reported as low. When was the last time you did a battery change?

    cheers
    Mike

  • Thanks Mike,
In this weather the battery is reported as low even when they have only done a couple of hours - the low temperature triggers the low battery warning so it's difficult to know when it is really a low battery. I guess I put new batteries in about 700 - 800 miles ago approx. Is there a field that gives the battery voltage?

I've just popped them out and they both read 2.85v but the temperature on the ride today was just below to just above freezing.

    Nick

PS I'll put some new ones in for the next ride.
PPS 2.89v now they are at room temp.

    hi Nick,

Your batteries reported 2.61V at the start of your ride and 2.55V at the end.

The .fit file contained the info and I was able to read it with FFRT.

    cheers
    Mike
  • Thanks Mike,
I ought to try using the FFRT so I can check battery status when I start getting low power. Knowing the voltage at the end of the ride could be more useful as the temperature usually goes up a bit during a ride.

    Thanks again
    Nick

    PS
Unfortunately I am using a Mac so it seems that I can't use the FFRT.

    Hi Guys,

My 820 has kind of crashed when completing and saving my last 2 rides. Plenty of battery so not sure what the issue is.

Has any one got the skills to fix my files so I cn upload them, I need the miles :-)

    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Fantastic, Thanks so much for your help. They seems to upload fine, I got my miles back.

The unit keeps crashing randomly so it's going back!

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Mike,

You seem to be the wizard with file recovery! Like I've seen with others, I returned from an 88mi ride, hit save, and my battery died while on the summary screen. After plugging in, I can see the ride in my history list, but when I attempt to open it, synch it, or upload to Strava, I get nowhere! The file seems to be the right size, so I know I recorded data.

I'm on my annual bike trip to CA and I'm dying to see my year-over-year performance on a particular 1,700ft climb. Can you help? Kudos to you if you can recover this!

    Tracy

PS: I tried a few things before turning to you for help, to no avail. My options seemed limited because I'm on a Mac.
