Corrupt Fit file

My son did his first road race ever yesterday and was using an Edge 820. I believe that his 820 crashed right after the race and as a result his .fit file seems to be corrupt. Is there anyone that can repair it for me?

I probably wouldn't care so much about this if this wasn't his first race ever.

On a side note, his 820 seems to be crashing a lot so I suppose I'll be calling Garmin support.

Can we remove this as a sticky?

lets NOT remove this as a sticky - it allows those of us who assist with fixing corrupt .fit files an easy place to find the requests, and it saves cluttering up the forums…

I took 2 rides that had data issues.

In the first ride, the device reset and now data is corrupted for that section. Here's the csv code for that section.:

The first line is before the shutdown and the last line is the correct continuation.

In the second ride, I turned off auto-pause and forgot to turn it back on, so a rest stop is included in the metrics.

The idea is to include that time as a rest stop with the timer paused.

hi,

for the first file check your definitions for data records 7, 8 and 13 they are wrong or incomplete

for the second file, do you need another START_ALL code ?

how did you get the csv extract ? online ?

Thanks for the replies. The main question is, if the GPS was not paused and i took a break with the timer rolling, would RWGPS or Strava count the break as moving time or stopped time when factoring ride time and speed average?

6047354 - I stand to be corrected but I believe it would be counted as moving time. A program like FFRT would allow you to delete the records associated with the break and insert a Stop/Start event.

hi,

you can try and do the repair by yourself

run your fit file through Fit File Tools's section remover (without any removing)
when this fails, give a yell back here

Yeah, I found that tool, thanks :)

But it only gives me 0.13 km and 0.45s moving time. The data seems intact when I look at the ride from the Edge 820 device (Summery and Time in Zone show good data, but Segments is blank).
