Training Effect Garmin Edge 820

I believe I have seen the Training Effect on my Edge 820 at the beginning, but now it is missing. Anyone with the same experience? Has it been removed? Wanted to ask on here first before doing a full reset - takes ages to get all the settings and connections done again. I'm running a HR monitor and power meter. Thanks!
  • None of the Edge units report TE.
  • Does anybody know if Garmin has plans to enable this useful feature also for the Edge devices? Or is there any special reason why this is not enabled yet?
For me it's a bit disappointing that the newer and more expensive 820 does not show any TE status. Whereas the older and cheaper Fenix 3 (without HR and Saphir) does this without any issue. Using both devices for cycling is not a suitable solution for me.

I'm currently doing the same to check TE with the Fenix, don't see any reason why the Edge 820 can't do it technically.

Garmin most likely has not acquired a licence – that is, entered into a suitable commercial arrangement – to use FirstBeat's Training Effect ‘technology’ or algorithms on the Edge device model in question. (No, there is no “should”, and whether you want the feature is irrelevant to the business decision made long before you bought the Edge device.)

The better way to set one's expectations of a product is to read its specifications, data-sheet and other marketing collateral, instead of making unvalidated (and ultimately invalid) assumptions based on pricing coupled by one's own opinion on fair value-for-money.

don't see any reason why the Edge 820 can't do it technically.

Again, that is largely irrelevant. Being in a position (technically and otherwise) to give you what you want, if an entity so chooses, does not oblige it to either proceed with doing so or even offer.

I have also a problem with TE. It is a very interessant information .... when it works.

Actually, if i do a steady state exercise, I have no information about the training effect. If in the first minutes of my exercise My Fc and FTP come close to the treshhold, the training effect gives a number in the following minutes. Sometimes, i had a value after 15 minutes and sometimes i had to wait 45 minutes, very different from a day to another. It is not precis in theses conditions and i hope Garmin will improove it.
