Edge 820 compatible with Bluetooth Smart sensors?

Hi,
I am looking to get a Garmin Edge 820, but would like to know if i can use my heart rate monitor that has Smart Bluetooth connection and not Ant+?
Is it possible? i have got different answers, The Edge seems to connect to Smart trainers through BT so therefore i am hoping that it would connect to my HR monitor. The i would not need to go with the bundle.
The Garmin Hr Montior seems so big in comparison with my Suunto one. (dont know if thats an issue anymore but have read before that Garmins HR monitors kept failing after a year or so).
  • The Garmin Edge 820 does not connect to any Bluetooth Smart (aka Bluetooth Low Energy / BLE) sensors - Bluetooth is exclusively for connection to a phone on the Garmin Edge series (and I'd suggest unlikely to change any time soon given that Garmin is ultimately the owner of ANT+)

    Ok,
But i read from a user that the Edge connects to his Tacx Smart trainer throug bluetooth? But maybe that person is mistaking or it works with trainers but not other sensors.
  • Tacx Smart trainers are bilingual :) They do both BLE & ANT+ (and some also do ANT FE-C) - he might think it's Bluetooth - but it will be ANT+ and/or ANT FE-C (if his trainer supports it)

At least all of the Tacx Smart trainers I've had access to so far have all connected via ANT+/ANT FE-C to my Garmin Edge 820 (and Fenix... and laptop) - but Bluetooth to the phone.
