Sharing Garmin devices

My wife has an edge 25 and I am about to get an edge 820. Is it possible to both set up our own account and switch between the two devices so we can each use the 820 when cycling alone and get it to post to our individual strava / garmin accounts?

    a: no

workaround: not ideal but all I can think of is either a) always manually upload to the correct account or b) link each device to one account BUT *ALWAYS* manually move the file from the device before autosync when used by the person who is not linked to that device.

I *THINK* that even switching between windows user accounts on an individual PC will cause you problems, I seem to remember trying that once.
  • It's probably not worth the trouble but I can think of one thing to try.

If you have 2 PCs, setup the 820 in Express on both PCs but linked to the 2 different accounts. Whenever you sync, make sure you sync using the correct PC so that it will send the activity to the correct account.

Would 2 iPhones work for syncing 2 accounts, or is that slower / goes through the pic account anyway?

I suppose garmin want you to buy more gadgets rather than sharing one ☹️
  • I suggested Express because there is a certain granularity it supports with being able to configure a specific account per device.

If you each have an iPhone linked to your own separate Connect accounts, I think there's a good chance it will work. If there's a problem, you might get an error message saying that the device is already registered in another account.

If it does work, you could setup both Edges into each account and then you're both free to use either device.
  • It will always upload all activities to whatever account it's linked to. You need to delete the activity from the device to prevent it from being uploaded to the wrong account. Or delete those activities after they're uploaded.

if you're not too attached to Connect, you can try:

1 - create a profile for each user in Edge, each with a different subcategory (track cycling and BMX for example)

2 - activate auto sync to another website or software (Strava, Rubitrack, Sporttracks...) one person uses garmin connect, the other the synced account.

3 - use sub category filters in order to retrieve and delete partner's files from Connect account. I fear sub category is seldom synced to 3rd party sites, so there is still some work to do, but obviously it's just a workaround...!

Thought maybe the best way is that if my wife uses the 820 she puts her 25 in her pocket to record her ride, then deletes the ride from the 820 when she gets back

    Thx for the help though

I like Jon's idea. But run them both on the bar though so the edge 25 is more accurate and use the 820 for live segments, navigation, etc. Save the ride from the 25 and discard the 820 ride. (you also have the 820 as a back up)
  • interesting thread as I basically ended up in the same situation. Recently bought an Edge 820, where my wife call this a "gadget" ..lol... but after having seen what we can do with especialy on the health part, she decided to start sports again, running for her. I gave her my garmin yesterday just to record her ride, distance, max HR, time.....

Of course this has been sync on my GC account, and I am also looking at possiblity to have multiple user on the edge 820, on the GC side yes to have the correct upload, but also on the edge itself as HR zone, calori calculation will be different...

With the connect IQ DB, i was hopping a clever developper would have designed something like this, but didn't find yet....Also not straight forward to have a running activity upload to GC automatically as running and not cycling from and edge 820.....OK i know a Edge 820 is for cycling.. lol...

After many months of my wife not liking the edge 25, I solved the problem of what to buy for her birthday as well as the Garmin problem by buying a second edge 820!
