Firmware 5.10 Feedback Thread

Anyone want to guinea pig the new 5.10 update and provide feedback?

Based off my own experiences with Garmin, I'm always weary when a new update comes out. Still on 3.2 at the moment.

The changelog doesn't address any bugs so not entirely hopeful.
  • I've got a trouble after updating to firmware 5.10 with the clock. The current time, which is usually taken by GPS, is not correct/has changed. What can I do to solve this problem?
  • For me the slow sometimes unresponsive screen coupled with the fact that when riding in the dark and using the Varia radar, the back light is not triggered to come on at the preset level. So for me this make a dangerous scenario as you can touch the screen to trigger the back light but when its unresponsive...well you get the picture! So if there is any chance I will be riding in the dark or the weather is rainy or cold I use my Edge 520.
  • Touch screen fail since beginning

I must confirm E820 troubles not only with touch screen since beginning. Few days ago, after FW 5.1 upgrade when riding in dark and cold (around 0°C) forest display started suddenly switching screens, changing backlight intensity pressing 10-20-30%... automatically(!!) it just stopped asking to confirm deletion of my profile, I was just wondering what's going on. Funny was that it was not reacting on my fingers, too cold?! No idea. This device is really fatal fail from Garmin. I'm shocked how such pre-alfa HW&SW can such "famous" company release and sell for big money. I'm not talking about non working wifi and BT etc., wasting of time. Going downgrade to 3.20, loosing all profiles, history etc.

I'd like to say NEVER Garmin again, but is there anything better? I'm sure they know the others are even worse, so they are just laughing...

I just stumbled upon this video by Shane Miller.

    www.youtube.com/watch

Strangely comforting to see the touchscreen issues confirmed by someone else. It's also worth to read the comments below the video, there are many people with the same issues. His video about navigation on the 820 is also worth watching, it also shows the same issues we are having.

This should definitely not have been launched as a $$$ product for its users to discover that "hey, it actually doesn't work when its raining or when its cold out".

Take your experience of sweating on the screen and multiply it by 10 to get what its like to operate the device in the rain (translation: impossible).

Its the same when its hot, 35°C and the touchscreen wont work at all. I even needed to wait about 15min when I got home in the air-con till the touchscreen responded. Still got the power issues but not as frequent, also powered off the unit at 90% battery and did a 12h shift, the unit would not turn on when I went to ride home, got home and discovered it was flat-az-a-pancake. Funny as I have done a 10 hour ride and the battery was still at 40% when I finished, must have been looking for wifi, satellites and bluetooth with no luck that killed it. It was also "powered off', not just put to sleep, the only strange thing was the power symbol stayed up for a long time before disappearing.

Starting to wish I kept my 810... I would have thought that with the long list of Edge units they have made over the years that the basics would be ok, just a few small bugs, but this is laughable.

same screen issues with a new device

....So I had enough of the buggy screen and other issues so I send my device back demanding a replacement. Without any delay I recieved a new device from Garmin. Great service!! ..... but this morning on my first ride full of fresh hope my issues would be solved the screen went bananas again.

FW 5.1. No IQ apps, No Sensors. It was not raining, but cold (4degr C). After 10 minutes into the ride it starts automatically swapping screen, changing settings and saving POI. It really went all over the place. At the end it froze and the screen slowly faded away....

Back inside after a restart all seems to work fine again......... Garmin help!! Winter is coming in Europe and this thing should work:mad:

Well, we had cool change here and I rode today in 14°C, touchscreen worked 100%, a little bit slow but worked with full-finger gloves on. Map still unsearchable but that's another issue.

Garmin, you are running out of time. The Northern hemisphere is heading into Winter and us in the Southern Hemisphere are getting hot days already, a long hot summer approaches and these units are about to become unusable.
  • -6°C here this morning - apart from the ever present elevation deficiency, worked just fine - although I am still in fingerless mitts :)
