New Cycle Map Europe 2016.20 : very slow 820 after update !!

Hi,

For (only) those in Europe, Garmin released a new version (2016.20) of Cycle Map (previous was 2016.10). I tried it this morning : a total disappointment !! The Edge 820 became very very slow if the map screen is displayed --> all the functions have a 15 or 30 sec feedback, the routing messages are too late, the display is not refreshed (partially blank map) and the Varia radar is sometimes blocked (no alert) Maybe the memory of the 820 is full

Other (European) users experienced also this ??

I did the update yesterday, I haven't used the map page yet, but I thought some of the Varia alerts were missing but I wasn't sure as it was pretty dark riding to work this morning.
I'll keep an eye out on the way home.

Edit: It appears that the Varia Radar alerts are working but they're not turning on the backlight (which is not much use when it's pitch black) I'm pretty sure they did before.

The routing message being late and the display not fully refreshed are problems that already occurred on my 820.

I have just tried the map screen and I see your point. Just swiping to the next screen takes about 10 seconds. There is so much delay I can't even pan or zoom the map. It's completely useless now. I must say I have not tried the mapscreen with the latest firmware and the previous map. Could it be a firmware issue?

BTW bringing down the map detail to 'less' or 'least' increases speed dramatically for me.
  • I known and I had already checked this option, but not enough to have decent response time...

Did you try resetting your 820? Mine was very slow too, but after a reset, by pushing the on/off button for 10 seconds, it is back to normal speeds.
  • I did... no change...
Downloaded to previous version (hopefully, I did a backup before update !)

I downgrade my unit to 3,2 and the problem is solved.. The last update solve some problems but brokes the map refresing!!!

    PECAS timber

I had a similar issue where attempting to use the map for navigation etc was incredibly slow, crashed the device etc.

I similarly solved this by downgrading to 3.20

On the off chance I reapplied 4.10 and not it seems fine on first go, not sure what was wrong the first time the firmware was applied.

    YMMV
  • Seems to be fixed in firmware version 5.1
