Battery Life - Anyone else not satisfied

I've been using the Edge 820 since two weeks now, upgrading from the Edge 510.
I must say I am disappointed in battery life, which is significantly shorter than on the Edge 510.

After round about 8hrs of Screen On Time the 820's battery is drained. With the Edge 510 this was more like 11 hours.
On a day in the saddle incl. breaks 8 hours is not unrealistic.

While riding on trails with varying brightness, I found the display brightness set to Auto-brightness way too dark.
So have set it to constant 70% background brightness.

Wifi turned off.
Bluetooth on, also Livetrack on (esp. when alone on the trails), GroupTrack is off.

Running Firmware 2.3

Is it something I will have to get used to? Or will the battery reach its full potential after some more charging cycles?
Any tips on how to extend battery life? (except for Low Battery Mode).

I guess that's it. The best I got was about 8% drainage per hour of usage.
If you have a lot of breaks, you can stop the ride (by pressing lower right physical key) and putting device to sleep.
You can resume the ride by waking the device and again pressing lower right key.
  • Opposite

In my case I get around 16 hours of battery life which is great on E820. On testing E1000 had like 9-10 hours, so this is big positive. Similar battery life to E500. Auto brightness, BT, all sensors (HR, Power, Cadence). After fully charged I get like 6-8% on a 2 hour ride. In the second half of battery it deteriorates but still great result
Numbers decrease if you navigate. In navigation only mode more like 10-11 hours (still ok for me)
  • Battery life - 1 got 6 hours 43 minutes yesterday from fully charged

No sensors, following a route. Pretty dismal
  • The specs state "12 hours typical usage." Another factor that is not described in the manual is that a lithium-ion battery loses its ability to maintain capacity over time. As the battery gets closer to using up its ~500 discharge cycle limit, it will hold less of a charge until it is completely kaput. Not to say you didn't get a dud, but something to consider. Contact Garmin support if not satisfied.

    Maximizing Battery Life
    Turning On Battery Save Mode
  • I do not understand, why i should turn of BLUETOOTH, having 2 sensors
But WIFI could be turned of - why is it not listed in the manual as a battery saver???
The unit should power of WIFI automatically when in action - sensors report movement
  • WiFi is automatically disabled when the timer is started.
  • So biking without enabled timer is a battery drainer
