round-trip routing help

hello,

I am new to garmin, ass well as to this forum. I recently bought the 820 with one of the reasons being the navigation function. Particularly when on holiday and don't know any good routes it seems very handy. From my understanidng there are two ways to use the navigation, you can either create a route online or you do the "round-trip" garmin suggested to you. I thought the second option as the most convenient one when you want to discover new routes (from home for example) or from a holiday location where you don't know any routes.

So, what i did, i tested it to see if it would meet my expectations. Since i'm not somewhere else but right at home, I could also review the routes garmin chose... Either I'm doing something wrong (hopefully) or the feature isn't just what I expected or hoped, because all the routes it creates just sends me on the "big main roads" (that is, along national roads) and through large town areas, both for a long way as well. I admit, I live in a highly populated area with lots of towns (Amsterdam, Netherlands), but it would be nice to see garmin take the smaller roads in between and not only the main roads or the roads through cities. I could imagine that it's hard for a algoritmic function like this to totally exclude this kind of roads, but as I see it now, it's a totally useless function (for discovering new routes, at least). I'm hoping someone could give me a solution for this, or can tell me there is no solution (yet) (and stop me from trying to find one, in vain..). Is there, for example, a possibility to mark certain areas as areas the round-trip creater needs to avoid? Maybe that would be algorithmically possible?
thank you!!
