Hi all, is it possible to have any new whatsapp notifications scroll through the screen that I'm looking at whilst i'm riding? I believe this is possible for text messages but what about 3rd party apps like whatsapp? thx.

Whatapp would be useful, I've had no luck with it. :(
  • Is anyone actually using SMS these days???

I thought this was meant to work too. On Android I see that Garmin Connect is allowed access to "Smart Notifications" (Settings -> Sound and Notifications -> Notification access), and in Connect I have smart notifications enabled for everything. But I only get call/text notifications, nothing else - not WhatsApp and not Threema and not GMail.

The answer is right in the specs of the device at Garmin.com:

"Smart notifications displays texts and calls only"

There are other threads on this support site where people describe getting their WhatsApp messages displayed. Why would the Connect app give you the ability to turn each of these notifications on and off if they're not supported?
  • In GCM, go toSettings=>Smart Notifications

Click on the 3 dots at the top RHS.

    Click on Add

Scroll down to WhatsApp and click on it.

    Select Add

I've added GCM, Maps, Skype, Clock etc. to this list and it works fine.

I was surprised that Garmin had not added GCM by default, but their developers work in mysterious ways it seems.

It's in there (always was), along with email, gmail, Threema (I added) etc. None of them work.

This is the procedure I used when I got my F3 a few years ago, but it is not working on the Edge 820
  • Same for me Fenix 3 is working fine with GMail and WahtApp. But Edge 820 does not show them.
