So disappointed.... yet again....

So I've had the usual issues most people have observed (touchscreen sensitivity, altitude correction etc....) but tonight I had a complete crash..... Wouldn't turn back on despite many attempts so ended up doing a hard reset, which obviously lost current ride as well as all settings etc.

Such a disappointment - i was 7 miles into a regular ride, going for it, and around 40 seconds up on PB. I wasn't navigating, just normal riding with a live segment active.

What is more disappointing though is the poor software quality (again) of the garmin, and now the fear this will happen again.

I had an edge 500 - no problems
I had an edge 800 - no problems, until lost!
I had an edge 1000 - awful battery life, and touch screen all over the place in the rain.
I sold edge 1000 and went to edge 810 - regularly turns itself off, in the end nearly every ride (all the way up to 5.1 S/W).
Now the edge 820.....

Why is it so hard for Garmin to get this right? I have many many other electronic devices (phones, TVs, games consoles, tablets etc etc, none of which randomly turn off and then require a hard reset losing all data just to get them to turn on!!!

Are the garmin software team proud of their product?? The hardware and features are awesome, but let down by the software :(
  • You can rely on Garmin for releasing unreliable products

Why am I not surprised to read this?

My Edge 1000 was easily the worst gadget I ever owned. Most flakey software and the worst wifi and Bluetooth experience I've had for 15 years!

But I came here to see if the Edge 820 might work better.

    Clearly not.

After all these years you'd think Garmin might've learned?

I can't say I'm that disappointed with my 820, yes I do have problems with the Elevation correction (and it's going back for replacement tomorrow), but the touchscreen problems others are complaining about haven't been an issue for me (it's just been a matter of getting used to a different type of screen).
The 820 is definitely an improvement over the 810 it's replaced, yes there are one or two things the 810 did better (Elevation correction being one of them), but I'm sure Garmin will fix that in a firmware update sooner or later.

If you still have it, rollback to 5.00!
