Total Ascent Not Working?

I just bought the Garmin Edge 820. My other rides have all recorded total ascent for the ride. Today, my total ascent read 0. It should have read >800 ft. I uploaded to Strava and had it corrected. Why does the altimeter seem to work intermittently? I powered off and back on to record the second half of the ride and it still read 0. What gives?

I haven't seen any posts about Total Ascent not working. You could have a bad pressure sensor. What does the elevation profile look like when the ride is uploaded? Does it look okay or is it just a flat line?

The first half of my ride it looks like it started to record for a few feet, then flat-lined. After powering off and starting a new ride for the return trip, it's looks even weirder, but basically a flat line. I'm attaching a photo.

The hole for the pressure inlet is on the back just above the mounting bracket. Check to see if anything is blocking it. Otherwise contact support.

That was it! Something must have blocked the hole. I didn't realize that's where the altimeter sensor was located. Good info to have! Today's ride through mud and dirt and lots of hills recorded perfectly. Thanks!!

I think it is a random bug. Happened to me also. My hole is clean (TMI)
  • This worked for me as well. Some tubeless gunk had hit it from a massive front wheel puncture. Cleaned and working.
