Incident Detection not working

I have configured incident detection and have Garmin connect running on my iPhone. The 820 is connected. I am trying to test incident detection. How do I know it's working?
  • If it gets triggered then the Edge will rapidly and show a message that it will alert your contacts if you do not clear the message.


    The trigger is based on analyzing the data from a multi-axis accelerometer.

    You could try triggering it by holding the Edge in one hand and slapping it with the other or bouncing the bike down some steps. You need to pull enough G force to trigger it.

    I guess dropping it from 3 feet onto a bed is probably not enough impact.

    I will try your suggestions.

    Anyone else try to trigger it with a slap or a drop?

    You have possession of an Edge 820, so why don't you try it?
  • Selecting correct phone number for contact?

    I've setup Incident Detection with a contact however it's pulling a home number rather than the primary cell number for a contact. Does anyone know how to configure Incident Detection to trigger the specific number for a multi-number contact? I'm using an iPhone along with my 820
  • I think the that currently the only workaround is to create a new contact on your iPhone for that user with just one number.

    If I forget to disable it (or if GC re-enables it), mine goes off as soon as I hit any rough stuff on my CX bike, to be honest it's a bit of a PITA.

    I have the same problem, doesn't work. But I do have a circle spinning around and around behind the emergency contact name in the app, even if they have received both SMS and Email that they are listed as my emergency contatcs.
  • Here's a possible answer to this old thread, based on a test I did this morning on my Garmin Edge 820.  I found there are 3 good things to verify:

    1.  When you set up an Emergency Contact in the Garmin Connect app, that person should receive a text stating they have been set up as your contact.  

    2.  I triggered an "incident" on my Edge 820 by turning it on, starting a ride on it, and then dropping it down a flight of stairs, landing on the wood floor.  

    3.  It started displaying "Incident Detected", and I waited 30 seconds for it to automatically notify my Emergency Contact, which it did.

    I had been curious the last few days about Incident Detection, as I had a fall on a road ride earlier this week, and my Emergency Contact was never notified.  The Edge 820 did show an asterisk by the ride, with a notation that an incident was detected.  But it never displayed a screen to me, showing that it was contacting anybody.  It appears I had not properly set up my Emergency Contacts, so the Edge / Connect didn't have anybody to notify.  When setting up Emergency Contacts, it appears to be important to make sure there is a single phone number and email address.  My wife's previous information included our defunct landline number and an obsolete office number, and I suspect this was causing a problem with the Incident Detection feature.  I changed her contact information on my iPhone to be just her phone number and single email address.  

    Hope this helps for anybody who may be looking.
